For years, Tsuburaya Productions has been working to introduce Ultraman to a wider audience. Teaming up with Netflix and Industrial Light & Magic, Ultraman: Rising takes a bold step by reimagining the characters, story, and even the overall tone of the franchise. This new movie aims to be a more universally appealing version of the classic Tokusatsu hero.

The trailer introduces us to Ken Sato, a superstar baseball player with a hidden secret. When trouble hits his home country of Japan, Ken transforms into the giant superhero, Ultraman! Taking over from the previous Ultraman, Ken is tasked with protecting humanity from giant monsters known as Kaiju. But during one of his battles, Ken encounters something completely unexpected – a baby Kaiju!
From Hero to Single Dad? Ultraman Faces a New Challenge
This is where things get interesting. Ken, not exactly prepared for fatherhood, finds himself reluctantly adopting the baby Kaiju. Now, not only must he fight off monstrous threats, but he also has to deal with the challenges of raising a giant, fire-breathing toddler. The trailer hints at some hilarious moments as Ken struggles to balance his superhero duties with diaper duty.
Adding to the chaos are the Kaiju Defense Forces, a human organization dedicated to protecting the world from Kaiju. Unfortunately, they see the baby Kaiju as a potential threat and will stop at nothing to capture it. With the authorities after him and a giant monster baby to care for, Ultraman: Rising promises to be a wild and action-packed adventure.

Mark your calendars, Ultraman fans! Ultraman: Rising is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, June 14th. The movie is directed by Shannon Tindle, who also co-wrote the script with Marc Haimes. The voice cast includes Christopher Sean as Ken Sato/Ultraman and Gedde Watanabe as Professor Sato.
