Gino Palazzolo visited his divorce lawyer, Robert, to discuss ending his marriage to Jasmine. He learned that because he and Jasmine are still legally married, Michigan law presumes he is the father of her baby, despite the child biologically belonging to Matt.
Gino confessed in a private interview, “When I heard that Jasmine was pregnant, I thought that would actually help my case because it proves adultery. But I had no freaking clue that I am technically the father of this child. Are you freaking kidding me? That’s totally f*cked up.”
His lawyer explained the serious financial and legal implications. “That’s going to…child support alone is going to be hundreds of thousands of dollars that you’re gonna be paying for the baby that you said is not yours,” the lawyer said. He advised Gino that he needs to take action, such as establishing paternity through DNA testing, and noted there is a three-year time limit after the child’s birth to do so. The lawyer also informed Gino that the involvement of a minor child extends the divorce waiting period to a minimum of six months.
