The blockbuster Michael Jackson biopic Michael is finally leaving theaters and heading to home screens. Lionsgate officially announced that the film will arrive on Premium Digital and Premium Video on Demand starting June 9, 2026. This means fans who missed the theatrical run or want to watch the King of Popโs story again can soon do so from their couches.
The film originally hit theaters on April 24, 2026. Since then, it has become a massive box office success. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson (Michaelโs real-life nephew) in the lead role, the movie has earned over $853 million worldwide. It currently stands as the second-highest-grossing music biopic of all time, right behind Bohemian Rhapsody.
When and Where to Watch ‘Michael’ Online
Starting June 9, viewers in the United States can rent or buy Michael on several major digital platforms. These include Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu), Google TV, and YouTube.
It is important to note that this is a Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) release. This means you will have to pay a rental fee (usually around $19.99 to $24.99 for 48-hour access) or a purchase price (typically $24.99 for digital ownership) rather than watching it for free with a subscription.
For viewers in Australia, the release date is also June 9. The film will be available to buy or rent through Prime Video, Apple TV, Fetch, Foxtel, Google TV, and YouTube. For fans in the United Kingdom and Canada, major digital retailers are expected to release the film on the same day, though specific local store listings are still rolling out.
Physical Media Release: 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD
If you prefer owning physical copies, you will need to wait a little longer. Lionsgate will release Michael on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on July 14, 2026. Pre-orders are already available for various editions, including:
- Standard DVD and Blu-ray: Available at most major retailers.
- 4K UHD Combo Pack: Includes the 4K disc, Blu-ray, and Digital code.
- SteelBook Editions: Exclusive versions are available at Walmart and Amazon.
- Collectorโs Edition: A special 4K UHD set includes a 50-page photo book.
Physical editions will include bonus features like behind-the-scenes featurettes, a look at Jaafar Jacksonโs transformation into Michael, and a deep dive into the Jackson family history.
When Will ‘Michael’ Be on Streaming (Starz and Prime Video)?
While the digital rental/buy release is coming soon, a “free” streaming release for subscribers is still months away. Since Lionsgate distributes the film, it will eventually stream first on Starz (a Lionsgate-owned network) before moving to Amazon Prime Video.
Based on previous Lionsgate release patterns, movies usually take 4 to 5 months after their theatrical run to land on Starz. Following that timeline, Michael likely will not hit Starz until late August or September 2026. After a run on Starz, it will eventually be available to Prime Video subscribers at no extra cost, but that date has not been announced.
