Comedian Samay Raina is winning praise online for shutting down a sexist remark during the first episode of India’s Got Latent Season 2. The episode, which premiered on June 20, 2026, featured Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as guests. The moment is gaining attention because it happened while another comedian, Pranit More, is facing major backlash for a different incident where he failed to stop similar remarks.
During the show, Samay asked the audience, “What does a girl like the most in a guy?” Before anyone could give a thoughtful answer, an audience member shouted, “Paisa (money).” Alia Bhatt immediately reacted and asked, “Who said this?” Samay quickly hit back with a witty response, saying, “Gareeb aadmi ne kaha hoga” (Some broke man must have said that). The comeback left both the panelists and the audience laughing.
A Sharp Contrast to the Pranit More Controversy
The moment is being compared to a recent controversy involving comedian Pranit More. During one of his live shows, an audience member named Himanshu Jangra made derogatory comments about a woman after spending Rs 370 on biryani for a date, expecting intimacy in return. Instead of shutting it down, More laughed and posted the clip online, calling it “Peak Gurgaon Content.” The video sparked massive outrage. The Maharashtra Cyber Police registered cases against both Pranit and Himanshu, and the National Commission for Women summoned them for endorsing non-consensual behavior. Himanshu also reportedly lost his job amid the backlash.
Social media users were quick to compare the two incidents. One user commented, “Pranit hota toh hass deta bas” (Pranit would have just laughed). Another wrote, “Pranit More should learn from Samay Raina.” A third user said, “I love how Alia reacted quickly, and Samay probably had flashbacks, so he stepped up.”
Alia Bhatt and Samay Raina’s Playful Banter
Beyond the serious moment, the episode was filled with playful roasting between Samay and the guests. Alia had joked that she was “kind of regretting” being there, to which Samay replied, “Maine bhi kiya tha Jigra dekh ke regret” (I also regretted watching Jigra). Alia took the joke sportingly and responded, “At least you watched the film. Thank you for contributing to my film.”
Samay also made jokes about Alia’s Cannes appearance. He quipped, “Kahan Cannes, kahan Latent… yahan cameras aap pe hai” (Cannes is one thing, Latent is another, but here the cameras are on you). Alia quickly turned the tables by expressing gratitude for Kapil Sharma, which got a big laugh from the audience. Samay also teased Sharvari, introducing her as “Alia’s plus one.”
India’s Got Latent Season 2 is now available to stream on YouTube and Netflix. The show returns after a year of controversies, including backlash over explicit comments by Ranveer Allahbadia. Samay had previously removed all episodes of the show from YouTube following the outrage but has now made a comeback with a “no filter” promise.
