John Abraham’s Vedaa and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein are facing tough times at the box office, unable to compete with the dominant performance of Stree 2.
Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein Underperform
Despite high expectations, John Abraham’s Vedaa and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein have struggled to gain traction at the box office. Both films, which were released around the same time as the highly successful Stree 2, have failed to generate significant audience interest.
Industry reports indicate that Vedaa, which debuted with considerable hype, has faced a disappointing run. As of the latest figures, Vedaa has accumulated approximately Rs 10.50 crore. The film, which was expected to perform well given Abraham’s star power, has not managed to captivate audiences as anticipated.
Khel Khel Mein, starring Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, and Ammy Virk, has faced even greater challenges. The film, which had an opening weekend collection of Rs 5.05 crore, saw a steep decline in subsequent days, with total earnings standing at Rs 9.95 crore. Kumar, who has been experiencing a rough patch with recent releases, continues to face struggles at the box office.
Stree 2 Dominates the Box Office
In stark contrast, Stree 2, the horror-comedy sequel starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has emerged as a major box office hit. Released alongside Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein, Stree 2 has collected a remarkable Rs 144 crore and is projected to approach the Rs 200 crore mark soon. The film’s overwhelming success has significantly overshadowed the performance of Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein.
Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s Recent Struggles
Akshay Kumar has faced a series of setbacks in recent years. Since the release of Sooryavanshi in 2021, none of his subsequent films, including Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Selfiee, Mission Raniganj, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Sarfira, have performed well at the box office. The only exception has been his extended cameo in OMG 2, which managed to generate some revenue.
Similarly, John Abraham has also been grappling with a lack of success in lead roles. His 2023 film Pathaan, where he starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan, was a notable exception, emerging as a significant hit.
