BTS member SUGA has completed a three-hour police questioning session related to his DUI (Driving Under the Influence) incident, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation. The session took place on August 23 at Yongsan Police Station in Seoul, following the conclusion of his public service military duties for the day.
SUGA’s Statement and Apology After Police Questioning
After the questioning, SUGA addressed reporters with a solemn expression. He issued a public apology, saying:
“I am truly sorry. I deeply apologize for the pain and disappointment caused by my wrongful actions. I am very regretful and will ensure that such an incident does not happen again. I apologize to all those who have supported me. Once again, I’m sorry.”
Despite the presence of reporters, SUGA did not respond to any questions regarding the specifics of the investigation. Questions about why he didn’t report to the police after being caught, the nature of his blood alcohol concentration, and inquiries about his future with BTS were left unanswered.
The Incident Details
SUGA, who is currently serving as a social service worker for his mandatory military duties, is set to be discharged in June of the following year. The incident that led to the police investigation occurred when he was found by police after falling off an electric scooter in the Hannam-dong area of Seoul. Upon investigation, the police determined that SUGA was driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.227%, a level that significantly surpasses the threshold for license suspension.
This percentage is reportedly the highest found in a celebrity DUI case, adding to the gravity of the situation. Under South Korean law, operating an electric scooter while intoxicated is treated the same as driving a car under the influence, leading to a criminal investigation against SUGA.
Police Investigation Continues
The police have assured the public that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and the various suspicions surrounding it. The case has drawn significant attention due to SUGA’s high-profile status as a member of BTS, one of the world’s most popular music groups.
Formal Apologies
Following the incident, both SUGA and BIGHIT MUSIC have issued formal apologies, acknowledging the severity of the situation and expressing regret.
