Actor Jung Hae In recently opened up about the emotional and mental strain he experienced while working on the hit Netflix K-Drama D.P.. During an appearance on the YouTube series Donor Hyeong, hosted by comedian Shin Dong Yup on the Zzanbro channel, Jung shared his challenging experiences while promoting his new film I, the Executioner.

Reflecting on the Tough Filming Process of D.P.

In a candid conversation, Shin Dong Yup acknowledged how demanding D.P. must have been for Jung Hae In. The actor didn’t hesitate to admit how much of a toll the filming process took on him. He described D.P. as an emotionally exhausting project, with its dark plot and serious core message about the military’s Deserter Pursuit (D.P.) unit.

Jung Hae In revealed that while filming D.P., he found himself reliving his own experiences from South Korea’s mandatory military service, which became so overwhelming that it caused nightmares and confusion on set. At one point, he even started responding to scenes with his real name instead of his character’s.

“I had a lot of nightmares while filming that. I dreamt that I had to re-enlist. It took such a toll on me that, when on set, when I had to say my character’s name, like, ‘Private An Jun Ho,’ I’d say ‘Private Jung Hae In’ instead. Everything felt so real and it took me back to when I served.”

The Gritty and Realistic Portrayal of Military Life in D.P.

Based on a popular webtoon, D.P. follows the military police unit responsible for catching soldiers who desert their mandatory service. The show earned widespread acclaim not only for its star-studded cast, including Jung Hae In, but also for its raw and often uncomfortable depiction of military life in South Korea. The realistic portrayal of the harsh conditions faced by conscripted soldiers resonated with many viewers, particularly South Korean men who have experienced military service firsthand.

While D.P. gained international recognition, Jung’s involvement in such a heavy, intense project clearly had a personal impact on him, making it one of the most difficult works of his career.

Jung Hae In’s New Film I, the Executioner

Despite the tough memories associated with D.P., Jung Hae In continues to expand his acting portfolio. He appeared on Donor Hyeong to promote his new movie I, the Executioner, which has sparked interest among his fans. The movie marks another step in Jung’s career as he takes on complex roles that challenge him both physically and emotionally.
