NewJeans, the globally renowned K-pop girl group, has taken a bold step amid their ongoing legal dispute with former agency ADOR. On December 14, 2024, all five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—launched a new social media account under the username ‘Jeanzforfree’, sparking curiosity and excitement among fans worldwide.
New Social Media Move
The group introduced their new account with a video where they greeted fans warmly, saying, “Hi, it’s really us.” Sitting close together, the members radiated joy and affection, assuring fans of their commitment to staying connected. The announcement was met with a flood of comments, including:
- “Are they not using the old account anymore?”
- “I’ve missed them so much.”
- “They seem happy, and that’s a relief.”
- “Are they promoting under the name ‘NewJeanz’ now?”
The new account has led fans to speculate about the group’s future name and activities, given that their former account is linked to ADOR.
Background of the Dispute
The launch of the ‘Jeanzforfree’ account comes amidst an escalating legal conflict between NewJeans and ADOR. The dispute began on November 13, 2024, when the group formally notified ADOR of six contractual violations, giving the agency 14 days to resolve the issues. On November 28, the group declared in a press conference that they would terminate their contract with ADOR effective November 29 at midnight. They stated:
“The responsibility lies with HYBE and ADOR, so we have no reason to file a lawsuit or pay penalties. We will proceed with all scheduled activities as planned.”
In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit on December 3, 2024, with the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract. The agency argued that the contract remains legally binding.
NewJeans, however, countered ADOR’s claims, stating:
“According to the terms of our exclusive contract, there is no longer any reason for us to work with ADOR or HYBE. The contract explicitly states that we have the right to terminate it if ADOR fails to fulfill its obligations.”
Future Prospects
The launch of their new social media account has fueled speculation about whether NewJeans will promote under the modified name ‘NewJeanz’ as their legal battle continues. The group’s proactive efforts to connect with fans suggest a determination to maintain their public presence and move forward independently.
Despite the ongoing dispute, NewJeans has assured fans that their scheduled activities will proceed without interruption. With their new chapter unfolding, fans eagerly await updates on their music and promotions.
