Former member of popular girl group Lovelyz, Jisoo, recently announced her foray into a new career path: live streaming. The idol went live on the Korean platform AfreecaTV on February 26th, sharing her reasons for this unexpected change.
Jisoo’s decision stems from the challenges she’s faced in her acting career. After Lovelyz’s disbandment in 2021, she signed with MYSTIC Story, focusing on building her acting career. However, she openly admitted during her stream, “I’ve been pursuing acting opportunities, but things haven’t been going well for me lately.”
The ever-evolving entertainment industry and the difficulties in securing acting roles led Jisoo to explore alternative options. “I chose to start streaming after carefully considering what I could do well in this world where trends are constantly changing,” she explained.
While venturing into streaming, Jisoo expressed her initial hesitation due to concerns about its impact on her image. “I hesitated a lot, to be honest,” she acknowledged. “I was concerned about how this would affect my image.”
She elaborated on her desire to pursue this new path with positivity: “My career in the entertainment industry has experienced highs and lows. As I’ve gone through both success and failure, all I want now is to stream with a happy heart and people I love to enjoy my streaming.”
Jisoo’s concerns stem from the platform’s reputation. AfreecaTV content can sometimes be suggestive, leading to societal judgment against its streamers. However, Jisoo assures her fans that her focus will be on gaming, a hobby she enjoys. “I like to play games, so I’ll be streaming games,” she clarified.
Jisoo’s decision highlights the challenges faced by many idols after their groups disband. While some successfully transition into acting or solo careers, others seek alternative avenues to stay connected with fans and build new paths.
As Jisoo embarks on this new chapter, fans and well-wishers extend their support and hope to see her thrive in the world of streaming.
