Adele reveals she needs to rest her voice after falling sick twice

British pop star Adele has announced that she is postponing the remaining shows of her Las Vegas residency, Weekends with Adele, due to health issues. The singer shared a statement on her Instagram page on Tuesday, February 28, 2024, explaining that she was sick at the end of the last leg of her shows and did not recover fully before resuming her performances.

“I hadn’t quite gotten the chance to get back to full health before shows resumed and now I’m sick again, and unfortunately it’s all taken a toll on my voice. And so on Doctors orders, I have no choice but to rest thoroughly,” Adele wrote. She added that the remaining five weekends of this leg are being postponed to a later date and that ticket-holders will be sent the information as soon as possible.

The 35-year-old singer also apologized to her fans for the inconvenience and expressed her love and gratitude. “I love you, I’ll miss you like mad, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience,” she captioned her note.

Adele’s history of cancelled shows and health issues

This is not the first time that Adele has faced challenges with her Las Vegas residency, which began in November 2022 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The residency was originally scheduled to start in January 2022, but was cancelled just 24 hours before the first show was due to begin. Adele said at the time she was “heartbroken” to cancel them, but added the show “ain’t ready” partly because members of her team had caught Covid.

The singer then performed 34 shows from November 2022 to March 2023, and announced another 34 new shows that started in November 2023. However, in December 2023, she revealed that she was suffering from chronic pain due to a disintegrated disc in her spine and sciatica in her left leg. She said she was taking medication and doing physiotherapy to cope with the condition.

Adele has also struggled with vocal cord issues in the past, which forced her to cancel several shows and undergo surgery in 2011 and 2017. She has been vocal about the importance of preserving her voice and taking care of her health, especially after becoming a mother to her son Angelo in 2012.

Adele’s plans for the future

Despite the setbacks, Adele has not given up on her passion for performing and making music. She released her fourth studio album, 30, in November 2021, which received critical acclaim and broke several records. The album, which was inspired by her divorce from Simon Konecki, featured songs such as Easy On Me, I Drink Wine, and Oh My God.

Adele has also announced that she will hold four concerts in Munich, Germany, in August 2024, her first shows in mainland Europe since 2016. The shows will take place in a specially-built stadium that can accommodate 80,000 people. Adele said she was excited to end this phase of her life and career with shows closer to home during such an exciting summer.

Adele’s fans have been supportive of her decision to postpone her Las Vegas shows and wished her a speedy recovery. They have also expressed their hope and anticipation to see her perform live again when she is ready and healthy.
