The team behind Rishab Shetty‘s upcoming film Kantara Chapter 1 has denied reports of a boat accident during shooting at Mani Dam reservoir in Karnataka. Earlier claims suggested a boat carrying Shetty and 30 crew members capsized, but the makers clarified no one was onboard when the incident happened.
Executive producer Adarsh JA stated the boat was only a background prop and overturned due to strong winds and rain. He confirmed the crew was safe and filming continued without delays. The production team emphasized strict safety measures were in place, including speed boats, life jackets, and emergency responders.
The film, a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, has faced multiple rumors of on-set accidents. However, the makers have repeatedly denied these claims, assuring fans that the shoot is progressing smoothly.
Police inspected the location and found no evidence of a mishap. Adarsh added that if any equipment had been damaged, shooting would have been halted. The film remains on track for its October 2, 2025 release.
“No one was on the boat when it tipped over, and no accidents took place. The actual shooting spot was away from that location. Everyone is safe, and filming continues as planned.” โ Adarsh JA
Reports had claimed the boat capsized in shallow waters, allowing everyone to escape unharmed. However, the production team dismissed these as false, clarifying that the vessel was unmanned and only part of the set design.
Kantara Chapter 1 has been surrounded by rumors of accidents since filming began. Earlier, reports mentioned a bus accident and an artist drowning, but the makers denied most incidents, calling them exaggerated.
The film, produced by Hombale Films, features Jayaram, Kishore, Jayasurya, and Jisshu Sengupta alongside Shetty. It explores the mystical origins of the Kantara universe, with music by Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematography by Arvind Kashyap.
Despite past tragedies, including the deaths of crew members due to unrelated health issues, the team insists the project is moving forward safely. Fans eagerly await the prequel, which promises a grander scale than the original.
“We obtained all necessary permissions and had safety measures like speed boats, fishermen, swimmers, and scuba divers on standby. We didnโt shoot in the water.” โ Adarsh JA
The police confirmed no mishap occurred, and the crew continues filming at the reservoir. The makers have urged media outlets to verify facts before reporting, as false rumors create unnecessary panic.
Kantara Chapter 1 is one of the most awaited Indian films of 2025. The original Kantara won critical acclaim for its folklore storytelling and visual grandeur, raising expectations for the prequel.
