Disney+ has started production on its new fantasy romance drama The Remarried Empress with a star-studded cast. The script reading session took place on May 13, 2025, and photos from the event were recently released. The drama is based on a popular web novel and webtoon with over 2.6 billion global views.

Shin Min Ah plays Navier, the empress of the Eastern Empire who is suddenly divorced by her husband, Emperor Sovieshu (Joo Ji Hoon). Instead of giving up, she demands to remarry Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong Suk) of the Western Kingdom to reclaim her power. Lee Se Young joins as Rashta, a runaway slave who becomes a key rival in the palace.

The supporting cast includes Lee Bong Ryun, Choi Dae Hoon, Park Ho San, Jung Young Joo, and Nam Yoon Ho. Director Jo Soo Won, known for I Hear Your Voice and Thirty But Seventeen, is leading the project. The script is written by Yeo Ji Na (The Uncanny Counter) and Hyun Choong Yeol (Brave Citizen).

The Remarried Empress is set in a fantasy world with political intrigue and romance. Navier is known for her intelligence and grace, but her life changes when Sovieshu betrays her. Heinrey, the mysterious Western prince, has hidden motives but may develop real feelings for Navier. Rashtaโ€™s rise from slave to concubine adds tension to the story.

The cast shared their excitement during the script reading. Shin Min Ah said, “Since this project is based on such a beloved original work, I feel nervous and at the same time very excited.” Joo Ji Hoon added, “I believe we’ll be able to deliver you a fresh hit of dopamine.”

Lee Jong Suk, returning to historical fantasy after Big Mouth, said, “I think it’s going to be a very fun and unique project.” Lee Se Young, who plays Rashta, shared, “The fantasy setting combined with the melodrama makes for a story full of fun elements.”

Fans are already discussing the drama online. One fan wrote, “Kdrama gods ate with this one.” Another said, “I can’t believe this castโ€”so much chemistry!” Many are excited about the potential love triangle and power struggles.

The drama is expected to release in 2026 on Disney+. More details about the exact premiere date will be announced later.
