Ajay Devgn is back as the beloved Sardaar in the sequel to his 2012 hit film Son of Sardaar. The actor shared the first poster and release date of Son of Sardaar 2 on his Instagram, creating excitement among fans. The film will hit theatres on July 25, 2025.
The poster shows Devgn in a yellow turban, standing confidently on two moving tanks. His caption read, “The Return of the Sardaar #SOS2 in cinemas near you on 25th July. #SardaarIsBack #SonOfSardaar2.” The film is directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and produced by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and T-Series.
Son of Sardaar 2 is a spiritual sequel to the original, which starred Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjay Dutt. This time, Mrunal Thakur plays the female lead, while Dutt returns as Don. The film also features Sanjay Mishra, Ravi Kishan, Kubbra Sait, and the late Mukul Dev, making it his last film before his passing in May 2025.
The first Son of Sardaar was a mix of action, comedy, and romance, set in Punjab. It followed Jassi (Devgn), who returns to his village and gets caught in a family feud. The sequel promises more humor, drama, and high-energy action.
“I am done filming for Son of Sardaar 2. I did the film because I got a call from Ajay Devgn. One call from him and that’s all it takes for me to say yes,” said Sanjay Mishra, who replaced Vijay Raaz after an alleged fallout with the director.
Fans are eagerly waiting for the film, but some expressed sadness over Mukul Devโs absence. A fan wrote on Reddit, “No Tony Paji this time.” Another added, “Paaji is Back!”
The film will clash with Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoorโs Param Sundari at the box office. Devgnโs last few films, like Singham Again and Shaitaan, were serious action dramas, making this a return to comedy for him.
Principal photography took place in Edinburgh, London, and Punjab. Sanjay Dutt faced visa issues for the UK schedule but later joined the shoot in India. The filmโs music is composed by Himesh Reshammiya, known for his catchy tracks.
Son of Sardaar 2 is one of six franchise films Devgn is working on, including Drishyam 3 and Golmaal 5. His ability to balance intense roles with comedy keeps fans hooked.
The first film had mixed reviews but was loved for its Punjabi flavor and humor. The sequel aims to bring back the same energy with a fresh storyline.
“Mukul will be watching over us like an angel bhai! What a movie, canโt wait for 25th July,” wrote Vindu Dara Singh, remembering his late co-star.
