BTS member J-Hope recently shared a surprising story about his time in the military. He revealed he ran 500 km just to get one extra day of leave. His hard work gave him thick calf muscles that even worried his mother.
The singer appeared on the Korean variety show Point of Omniscient Interfere (The Manager). He talked about his 18-month military service and how he pushed himself to earn vacation days.
J-Hope’s Extreme Running Challenge
J-Hope explained that his military base had a special program. Soldiers could run 800 km to get 5 days of leave. But during his service, the rules changed. The reward was reduced to 1 day off for 500 km.
Determined to earn extra time off, J-Hope ran over 10 km every day. He completed the 500 km goal and got his vacation day. However, all that running had a visible effect on his body.
“Mom asked, ‘What exactly happened for you to gain such strong calf muscles?’”
His mother was shocked when she saw his thick calves during his leave. J-Hope admitted he became self-conscious about his legs. He used a yoga ring to help reduce the muscle size before his military discharge.
Life After Military Service
Since completing his service in October 2024, J-Hope has been busy with music. He recently finished his Hope on the Stage world tour. His concert film even made it to the North American box office top 10, earning over $4.1 million globally.
Now, he is working on a new solo album. He also confirmed that BTS is planning a group comeback. The band will discuss a new album and world tour once all members are back.
“We’re trying to make a comeback as soon as possible. BTS is known for its performances. We’ll be planning a world tour as well.”
Fans React to J-Hope’s Military Story
ARMY (BTS fans) praised J-Hope for his dedication. Many found his calf muscle story funny and relatable. Some even joked about trying his military-style workouts.
Others expressed excitement for BTS’ reunion. The group’s last performance together was over 2.5 years ago. With Suga set to complete his service soon, all members will finally be back.
J-Hope is focusing on his solo career while preparing for BTS’ return. His recent single Killin’ It Girl (featuring GloRilla) has been a hit. He also hinted at a possible 2026 world tour with BTS.
Fans can expect more updates as the group reunites. For now, J-Hope’s military story shows just how far he’ll go for a little extra free time.
