Lee Byung Hun, who played The Front Man in Squid Game, has expressed strong interest in a potential spin-off focused on his mysterious character. The actor revealed he is “very compelled” by the idea, while creator Hwang Dong Hyuk also teased possible future projects.

Lee Byung Hunโ€™s portrayal of The Front Man, the ruthless overseer of the deadly games in Squid Game, left fans fascinated by the characterโ€™s hidden depths. With the Korean series concluding after three seasons, discussions about expanding the universe have intensified.

Lee Byung Hunโ€™s Interest in a Front Man Spin-Off

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Byung Hun shared his enthusiasm for a spin-off centered on The Front Man. He explained that the characterโ€™s untapped backstory and moral complexity make him a compelling lead for a new series.

“Director Hwang and I have been joking about a Front Man spin-off since the beginning. We both thought that the Front Man or the recruiter could be interesting for more story, because we havenโ€™t really explored these characters in their entirety yet. Their backstory is still vague, and their character is still a little murky.”

The actor confirmed he would gladly reprise the role if given the opportunity, stating:

“To look at the Front Man with a full character study would be a very fun thing to do. So, of course Iโ€™d be willing to star in it. The character has already been built and designed, and Iโ€™m very compelled by him. Just as the fans are curious to know more about him, I am too.”

Hwang Dong Hyukโ€™s Ideas for Future Squid Game Stories

Creator Hwang Dong Hyuk has also hinted at expanding the Squid Game universe. In a separate interview, he mentioned exploring the three-year gap between Season 1 and Season 2, including what The Front Man was doing during that time.

“One of the ideas Iโ€™m tossing around is what happened between season one and two. Thereโ€™s a three-year gap. So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years? What was the Recruiter doing? When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination.”

While no official confirmation has been made, the possibility of a spin-off remains open. Fans have long speculated about The Front Manโ€™s origins, especially after flashbacks revealed he was once a police detective who lost his family before becoming the games’ enforcer.

Fan Reactions and Theories

The demand for a Front Man spin-off has grown since Squid Game Season 3 concluded. Many fans believe his journey is far from over, especially after the final scene showed Cate Blanchett as a recruiter in Los Angeles, hinting at a global expansion of the games.

Some theories suggest The Front Man could return in the rumored American remake of Squid Game, either as an overseer or even as a player trying to dismantle the system from within. Others hope for a prequel exploring his transformation from a grieving father to the cold mastermind of the deadly competition.

Whatโ€™s Next for Squid Game?

While the original Korean series has ended, the franchiseโ€™s future remains open. Netflix has not confirmed any spin-offs yet, but with Lee Byung Hun and Hwang Dong Hyuk both expressing interest, the possibility is strong.
