James Gunn’s Superman has crossed a major box office milestone, becoming the first DC film since The Batman in 2022 to surpass $300 million domestically. The film, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent, achieved this feat in just 21 days of release, marking a significant win for DC Studios under Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership.
The movie has also outperformed previous Superman films, including Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel ($291 million) and Justice League ($229 million). Globally, Superman has earned over $522 million, with strong performances in the UK, Mexico, Brazil, France, and Australia.
Superman Becomes Ninth DC Film to Cross $300 Million Domestically
Superman is now the ninth DC movie to cross the $300 million mark in the U.S. and Canada. The other films in this elite group include:
- The Dark Knight (2008) – $534.9 million
- The Dark Knight Rises (2012) – $448.1 million
- Wonder Woman (2017) – $412.8 million
- The Batman (2022) – $369.3 million
- Joker (2019) – $335.4 million
- Aquaman (2018) – $335.1 million
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) – $330.3 million
- Suicide Squad (2016) – $325.1 million
The film’s success comes after a series of underperforming DC releases like The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Blue Beetle.
How Superman Compares to Other 2025 Blockbusters
Superman is the fourth film this year to cross $300 million domestically, trailing behind:
- A Minecraft Movie – Over $420 million
- Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch – Over $420 million
- Jurassic World Rebirth – Nearly $310 million
The film faces competition from Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which opened with $117.6 million domestically and has already earned $151 million in the U.S.
International Box Office Performance
While Superman is doing well in North America, its international earnings are slower, particularly in Asian markets. The film has made $223 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to $522.7 million. It is expected to soon surpass The Meg ($529.3 million) to enter Warner Bros.’ top 40 highest-grossing films list.
