James Gunn’s Superman has quickly become one of the biggest movies of 2025. After a successful run in theaters, the film is now available to watch at home. Here’s everything you need to know about where and how to stream it.

Superman Now Available on Digital Platforms

The new Superman movie is currently available to rent or buy on several digital platforms. You can find it on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home. The rental price is $24.99, and the purchase price is $29.99. If you rent, you have 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish once you begin.

James Gunn explained the quick digital release: “Well, it’s very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker. I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month. There were a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker is coming out now, and, at the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, even those people who couldn’t get to a theater before Peacemaker. And that’s really the reason for it.”

When Will Superman Be on HBO Max?

Since Superman is produced by Warner Bros., it will eventually stream on HBO Max. While an exact date hasn’t been announced, Warner Bros. usually adds movies to streaming 60 to 100 days after their theatrical release. This means Superman could arrive on HBO Max between early September and late October 2025.

Recent Warner Bros. movies like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners followed this pattern, hitting streaming about two months after their theater debuts.

Physical Release Coming Soon

For those who prefer owning a copy, Superman will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 23, 2025. Preorders are already available on sites like Amazon, with prices starting at $19.95.

Superman’s Box Office and Critical Success

The film has earned over $580 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing superhero movie of 2025 so far. Critics and audiences have praised it, with an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 91% audience score.

NPR film critic Glen Weldon said: “It makes you want to cheer. That’s it, that’s the secret ingredient that’s been missing from so many superhero stories for so long.”

Cast and Story Details

Directed by James Gunn, the movie stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The story follows Superman as he gets caught in an international conflict while facing off against Lex Luthor.

The film also features Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced in key roles.

Why the Early Digital Release?

Some fans were surprised by how quickly Superman moved to digital. Gunn clarified that the decision was tied to the release of Peacemaker Season 2, which premieres on August 21 on HBO Max. Since Superman sets up events in Peacemaker, the studio wanted fans to catch up before the show airs.

Final Thoughts

Whether you rent, buy, or wait for HBO Max, Superman is now easier than ever to watch. With strong reviews and a box office hit, it’s a must-see for DC fans.
