In that moment, you learn so much about these creatures” .
Hawley clarified that Wendy was not chosen by the Xenomorphs. Her child-like mind makes her believe that, but the truth is more scientific. He compared her empathy for the aliens to a child becoming a vegetarian because they feel sorry for animals.
“Nothing is accidental to a kid, right? You know, everything feels meaningful. There’s a moment in the fourth hour where she’s like, ‘They chose me.’ Right? Which is not true. Right? They didn’t choose her. She just can hear them because of whatever hardware or software issue that she has” .
Actress Sydney Chandler shared that filming the scene was challenging because there was no real creature on set. She had to use her imagination to interact with the baby Xenomorph. She pictured her own deceased dog to create a sense of connection.
“I found it scary going into that scene. I’ve never worked so fully with, you know, a blank space. There was nothing there. They put in a prompt for me to see and kind of like figure out where it would sit. Then the prop’s gone. And so it was, it was really, really fun because it was full on imagination” .
