Son Ye-jin kept her promise to fans by personally responding to their questions on Instagram following her appearance at the 30th Busan International Film Festival. The actress had participated in the festival’s “Actors House” event on September 18, where she shared stories about her career and personal life. When time ran out before she could address all fan questions during the event, she promised to continue the conversation online. True to her word, she spent time on September 19 answering questions directly on her social media account.

Son Ye-jin’s Personal Responses to Fans

During the “Actors House” event at the Busan International Film Festival, Son Ye-jin engaged in a 50-minute conversation with the audience. However, due to time constraints, not all fan questions could be addressed. At the end of the session, she made a commitment to her fans: “If you leave a comment on my SNS account, I will leave a reply as much as possible.” She followed through on this promise the next day by responding personally to questions on her Instagram account.

One fan asked:

“I wonder how to fill the gap when there is an unrefilling gap with the character as an actor and what makes Son Ye-jin feel the happiest in her life.”

Son Ye-jin responded thoughtfully, explaining her process for connecting with characters:

“The gap with the character is always a difficult and agonizing part. What would this character think about now while spending his daily life? What kind of action should I do? I think and think every moment. As the shooting goes in, we take a closer look at the character.”

When asked about what brings her happiness these days, she shared: “I’m so happy about the small daily life I spend with my child and my husband these days. It couldn’t be better just to see my child smile.” This heartfelt response gave fans a glimpse into her life beyond acting.

Son Ye-jin’s Career Reflections at BIFF

At the Busan International Film Festival, Son Ye-jin candidly discussed her 26-year acting career and the uncertainties she faced after getting married and having a child. She admitted to feeling anxious about returning to work with remarkable projects after becoming a mother. “After getting married and having a child, I felt anxious, wondering if I could meet audiences again with truly remarkable works like before,” she shared during the event.

She also reflected on how her perspective has changed over time: “Times have changed, and many actors continue to work after marriage, but thinking about my future as an actress, I couldn’t assume it would be the same as before. There was a sense of uncertainty. I wondered if I could still do romance roles, if people would seek me out.” She found inspiration by looking at the paths of senior actresses like Youn Yuh Jung, Kim Hie Ae, Jeon Do Yeon, and Kim Hye Soo, realizing that there would naturally be a path for her too.

Son Ye-jin’s Role in Festival Opening Film

Son Ye-jin attended the Busan International Film Festival to promote the opening film, “No Other Choice,” directed by Park Chan-wook. In the film, she plays Mi Ri, a character who grows stronger during a crisis and serves as an anchor for her family. Her character comforts her husband, played by Lee Byung Hun, after he loses his job unexpectedly.

Regarding her return to films after seven years since “The Negotiation,” Son Ye-jin mentioned the significance of this project. She also expressed happiness about working with director Park Chan-wook and actor Lee Byung Hun, noting that their presence made the filming process less heavy and more enjoyable compared to previous projects.

Son Ye-jin’s Family Life and Future Projects

During the festival talk and in her social media responses, Son Ye-jin openly discussed her family life with husband Hyun Bin and their young son. She revealed that they don’t often discuss work at home, saying, “We don’t really talk about work. I don’t even ask where I’ve been or if today’s shooting was difficult. I can tell just by looking at his expression.” However, she did mention that she made an exception for showing Hyun Bin the script of “No Other Choice” due to its significance as her return to film after several years.

When asked by a fan about potentially working with her spouse again in the future, Son Ye-jin responded: “I think about real couples or romantic comedies? Action? etc. I think it would be fun to do it together, but I don’t know the other person โ™ฅ.” This playful response hints at the possibility of future collaborations while maintaining their private dynamic.

Son Ye-jin also reflected on how her identity has evolved beyond being an actress: “I think there was only actor Son Ye-jin before. Son Ye-jin, who is not an actor now, is also very precious. Son Ye-jin, who is not an actor, is more funny and wild.”
