Rudy initially claims he shot Cliff in self-defense and is arrested for murder. His mentor, Bruiser Stone, acts as his lawyer. However, upon investigating the crime scene, Bruiser discovers the truth. The evidence, including the angle of a third bullet, proves that Kelly was the one who pulled the trigger to save Rudy from being killed.
Bruiser confronts Rudy and Kelly, convincing them that hiding the truth will only hurt their case. She tells Kelly, “Your silence could put Rudy behind bars forever.” Kelly decides to confess. Bruiser then meets with the prosecutor, Robert Quinn, and presents the facts of Kelly’s long history of abuse. She successfully argues that Kelly acted in self-defense, leading Quinn to drop all charges against both Rudy and Kelly.

Series creator Michael Seitzman explained the choice to avoid a romantic scene between Rudy and Kelly, noting it felt wrong after the trauma Kelly experienced. “I didn’t want the audience to be turned on by the moment or to be confused by the moment,” Seitzman said. Actor Milo Callaghan added that for Rudy, taking advantage of someone so vulnerable would go against his character’s values.
What This Means for the Future
Leo’s secret deal with Prince introduces a major threat to Rudy and Bruiser’s case. Prince, who was involved in the events that sent Bruiser’s father to prison, is now being paid to handle the two key witnesses. Jackie possesses a flash drive with the Tissue Committee report that could prove the hospital covered up 15 patient deaths, including Donny Ray’s.
This development directly ties Bruiser’s personal mission to clear her father’s name to Rudy’s current case against the hospital. The search for Jackie and Melvin Pritcher has become much more dangerous.
Meanwhile, at Tinley Britt, Sarah Plankmore continues her own investigation into the Tissue Committee. She visits Jackie’s ex-boyfriend, Charlie, in the hospital after his wife was attacked by Pritcher. Charlie denies knowing about the flash drive, but it is revealed he actually has it, setting up a future confrontation.
