In the new teasers for “Nice to Not Meet You,” Lee Jung-jae is fighting to break free from the character that made him famous, while his co-star Lim Ji-yeon is struggling with a career change of her own. The upcoming tvN drama has released new videos that introduce the two very different worlds of a top actor and a serious journalist on a collision course.
The character teasers show that Lee Jung-jae’s character, Im Hyun Joon, is tired of playing the same role despite its success. Meanwhile, Lim Ji-yeon’s character, Wi Jung Shin, finds her career turned upside down when she’s moved from hard news to entertainment reporting. Their unusual first meetings suggest a rocky road ahead for both of them.
An Actor Trapped by His Own Success
Lee Jung-jae plays Im Hyun Joon, an actor who has become a household name by playing “Good Detective Kang Pil Gu” in a hit series. The role has earned him awards and nationwide popularity, but the teaser reveals his growing frustration with being typecast.
In one scene, his character desperately pleads with his producers, saying, “Kill me off in the first episode! I’ve been stuck as Kang Pil Gu for seven years.” Despite playing the detective with an intense gaze even in pouring rain, the actor is visibly eager to prove he can do more than just one type of character.
The posters for the drama continue this theme, showing Im Hyun Joon on the cover of a magazine as “2025 Man of the Year” with the telling line: “Now give me a different roleโsomething other than a detective.”
A Journalist Out of Her Element
On the other side of the story is Wi Jung Shin, played by Lim Ji-yeon. She was once the ace reporter on the political desk and the youngest-ever winner of a prestigious press award. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she gets temporarily transferred to the entertainment news department.
The teaser shows her struggling to adapt to her new environment. As a political journalist, she doesn’t know the names of popular K-pop idols or hit television dramas, making her adjustment to entertainment news particularly challenging. Her fierce professionalism, which served her well in political journalism, doesn’t seem to translate smoothly to the entertainment beat.
When Two Worlds Collide
The meeting between the frustrated actor and the displaced journalist is anything but smooth. Their encounters are full of conflict, including a surprising scene where they headbutt each other while both wearing hospital gowns. This unusual first interaction sets the stage for what the production team describes as an “electrifying chemistry as rivals.”
The drama will explore their love-hate relationship as they navigate the unpredictable entertainment industry, where scandals break daily. According to the synopsis, their story begins with “a war of disses, fact bombs, and breaking stereotypes” but gradually develops into something more unexpected.
Behind the Scenes
“Nice To Not Meet You” brings together an impressive team from the Korean entertainment industry. The drama is directed by Kim Ga Ram, who previously worked on “Good Partner” and “Nevertheless.” The writer is Jung Yeo Rang, who created the popular series “Doctor Cha.”
The supporting cast includes Kim Ji Hoon as a baseball player turned news outlet CEO and Seo Ji Hye as the head of the entertainment department. The combination of a solid cast and experienced production crew has generated significant anticipation for the series.
The drama is scheduled to premiere on November 3 at 8:50 PM KST on tvN. For international viewers outside South Korea, the series will be available on Prime Video. The series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide, including Singapore.
Viewers who have seen the teasers have already started sharing their excitement online with comments like “The teasers already look fun,” “I can’t wait to watch,” and “Lee Jung-jae in comedy. I can’t wait.”
