Fans of The Witcher are in for a surprising and melodic treat when the show returns. The composer for the upcoming season has confirmed that a major musical sequence is in the works, marking one of the most ambitious set pieces the series has ever attempted.
The Upcoming Musical Sequence
The Witcher Season 4 will include a large-scale musical number in its fifth episode. This sequence, titled “As The Screw Turns,” will be a key part of the show. According to composer Joseph Trapanese, the number will follow the bard Jaskier as he opens up about his legacy and his long-standing rivalry with Valdo Marx. Trapanese described the piece as a blend of heartfelt confession, sharp humor, and theatrical flair.
โWe spent nearly two weeks on location, recording actors in the studio and on set to capture the immediacy and live energy of their performances. It was one of the most ambitious set pieces we’ve ever worked on for The Witcher,โ Trapanese said.
This musical moment will be integrated into a fan-favorite scene from Andrzej Sapkowski’s book, Baptism of Fire, where Geralt and his companions bond while cooking fish soup. In the show, this event will be expanded into a longer sequence where the group shares stories from their pasts.
A New Geralt and the Story Ahead
Season 4 brings significant changes, most notably with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill. The new season will see Geralt, recovering from his injuries, no longer staying neutral. He sets out to find Ciri, building a new found familyโor “Hanza”โalong the way, which includes Jaskier, Milva, and the new character Regis, played by Laurence Fishburne.
The season will adapt the final books in Sapkowski’s series, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake, as the story moves toward its conclusion with a fifth and final season.
A Musical History
This is not the first time music has taken center stage in The Witcher. The show’s first season featured the incredibly popular song “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher,” performed by Joey Batey’s Jaskier, which became a hit with fans. The composers for the early seasons, Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli, were known for their detailed work, having learned and recorded over 60 instruments to create the show’s unique sound.
The upcoming musical number in Episode 5 aims to capture a similar magic, pushing the creative boundaries of the series once again. As the characters sing and dance, it will provide both exposition and a deeper look into Jaskier’s history.
The Witcher Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on October 30, 2025, on Netflix.
