In the latest episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, a family is torn apart by a long-hidden truth. Roberto discovers how his mother truly died, a secret his father, Antonio, has carried for years. The emotional revelation changes everything for the family and puts them in greater danger from the town’s leader, Fede.
The Truth About Maria’s Death
Antonio finally reveals the tragic story of his wife’s death to Carol. He was an aspiring filmmaker, and on the day the apocalypse began, he was recording a protest. He pushed his wife, Maria, to interview the Prime Minister. A bomb planted in a car exploded, killing her and many others. Antonio’s face was scarred in the blast. The tragedy was also the day the dead began to rise; in old home movie footage, Antonio is seen with Maria in an ambulance as she turns into a walker.
This secret is the root of the bitter feud between Antonio and Fede. Fede also loved Maria and has used his knowledge of the truth to control Antonio. Roberto, who did not know how his mother died, overhears his father’s conversation with Carol and sees the devastating footage, leaving him heartbroken and angry.
Carol Discovers Fede’s Poison Plot
In Episode 6, Roberto’s health suddenly gets worse after showing signs of improvement. Carol grows suspicious and remembers that Antonio’s cat was also poisoned. She figures out that Fede has been poisoning Roberto to keep him weak and maintain his power over Antonio.
When Fede refuses to give Carol medicine, she takes action. She breaks into his office at night to find aspirin for the boy. Fede’s mother, Doรฑa Marga, catches her and holds her at gunpoint. Using the little Spanish she has learned, Carol explains that Fede has been lying and poisoning Roberto. Doรฑa Marga believes her and lets her go. With the medicine, Roberto’s fever breaks and he recovers.
A Dangerous Escape and a New Romance
Knowing they are no longer safe, Carol plans to get Roberto out of Solaz. She hides him in the back of her jeep to take him to the safety of the boatyard. Antonio promises to follow them to Valentina’s lighthouse later. Before they part, he and Carol share a tender kiss, suggesting a new romance is growing between them.
As Carol tries to leave, Fede stops her to search her vehicle. Antonio creates a distraction by publicly accusing Fede of sending his niece Justina away and of poisoning his son. The confrontation allows Carol to drive away with Roberto still hidden. However, Antonio’s actions put his own life at risk in the town he cannot bring himself to leave.
Daryl’s Failed Rescue Mission
Meanwhile, away from Solaz, Daryl and Paz are on their way to Barcelona. Paz takes Daryl to a refugee community of women who have escaped from El Alcazar. They plan an ambush to rescue Justina and stop the practice of La Ofrenda.
Daryl, Paz, and the refugees attack the convoy of El Alcazar’s leader, Guillermo. During the chaos, Daryl finds Justina locked in a cage on a truck, but he cannot break the lock to free her. One of the refugees, Laia, tries to fire a rocket launcher at Guillermo’s vehicle, but Paz stops her to save Elena, Guillermo’s wife, who is inside. The rocket blast frees a horde of walkers instead, ruining the rescue plan. Guillermo escapes with Justina, and Daryl and Paz are left to plan their next move.
Fan Reactions to the Episode
Viewers have shared mixed feelings about the episode online. Some are invested in the new dynamics, with one fan commenting on the drama, “This season should have been called ‘daryl and carol are the side characters in other peoples nonsense’” Another added, “Well we know season three continues in Spain so who knows. I’m not digging the soap opera crap with Carol, Antonio and his son.”
The episode sets the stage for a tense season finale, with Daryl and Paz heading toward a direct confrontation with El Alcazar, and Carol and Roberto’s safety depending on Antonio’s fate in Solaz.
