Jonathan Bailey, who plays Lord Anthony Bridgerton, has let slip an exciting detail about the first episode of the upcoming season. During a recent interview, the actor shared his enthusiasm after seeing the early cut of the premiere, hinting at a single shot that will completely surprise fans.

The Accidental Reveal

Speaking at the TIME100 Next Gala in late October 2025, Jonathan Bailey was discussing the new season with TIME editor Olivia-Anne Cleary when his excitement got the better of him. He confirmed he has already seen the first episode of Season 4.

“I’ve seen the first episode, and it’s phenomenal. It’s really, really good,” Bailey said. “There’s one shot that happens quite early on in the episode that will blow the fans’ minds. It takes everyone on a journey to new parts of the household. Oh no, I’ve just said too much!”

This spontaneous reveal has created a wave of speculation among dedicated viewers of the show. Bailey is known for being thoughtful with his words, making his pointed comments about this specific scene particularly noteworthy.

A New Look Behind the Scenes

The “new parts of the household” Bailey mentioned could signal a fresh direction for the series. Bridgerton has primarily showcased the luxurious lives of the aristocracy, featuring grand ballrooms and lavish estates. A glimpse into other areas of the household might mean exploring the world of the staff who work downstairs.

This new perspective would fit perfectly with the storyline for Season 4, which focuses on Benedict Bridgerton’s love story. The season is based on Julia Quinn’s third novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, a Cinderella-inspired tale where Benedict falls for Sophie, a maid. Showing the spaces where servants live and work would add a new layer to the show and ground the cross-class romance.

This theory is supported by the show’s significant investment in new sets. Reports indicate the production team built two acres of new sets at Netflix’s Shepperton Studios, representing the largest set expansion in the show’s history. These new constructions include replicas of Regency-era locations and, notably, previously unseen household interiors.

Benedict’s Season to Shine

After three seasons as a supporting character, Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton finally steps into the spotlight as the romantic lead. The new season will adapt his long-awaited love story with Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha.

The central meeting between Benedict and Sophie occurs at a masquerade ball hosted by his mother, Violet. Sophie is introduced as the “Lady in Silver,” and their encounter is described as an “old-school fairytale” moment. The story is expected to involve a two-year time jump after their initial meeting, exploring the challenges of their romance across social classes.

The core cast from previous seasons is set to return, including Jonathan Bailey as Anthony and Simone Ashley as Kate. Bailey has previously expressed his commitment to the show, confirming his return to support his on-screen family and see Benedict through his journey.

When to Watch

Bridgerton Season 4 will be released in two parts on Netflix. Part 1, consisting of the first four episodes, will debut on January 29, 2026. Part 2, with the final four episodes, will follow on February 26, 2026.
