Story Direction for Season 2
The new season picks up in the aftermath of a major tragedy. James is reeling from the death of his mother and is struggling with grief and inner emptiness. This loss has caused him to pull away, creating a rift with Ruby.
Meanwhile, Ruby is left heartbroken by James’s actions. She is determined to rebuild her life and focus on her academic goals, particularly her dream of studying at Oxford University. She tries to suppress her feelings for James and return to a time when she was invisible at Maxton Hall.
However, James is now desperate to make amends and win her back. The season explores whether their relationship can survive this period of grief, personal boundaries, and the vast social divide that separates them.
As the show’s head writer, Ceylan Yildirim, leads the writing team, the series continues to be based on Mona Kasten’s bestselling novel, “Save You,” the second book in her trilogy.
Actor Damian Hardung, who plays James, shared insight into his character’s state of mind, stating:
“James is fighting for stability. Like all of us, he needs reference points โ something in life he can hold onto. His own visions of the future don’t help him because they simply don’t exist. When mother, love, and father all fall away, then inner emptiness threatens. Getting out of that again, finding himself again โ that’s his big task in the second season.”
Harriet Herbig-Matten, portraying Ruby, described her character’s journey as one of “setting boundaries and healing, about letting someone go.”
The main cast members returning for the second season include Harriet Herbig-Matten as Ruby Bell, Damian Hardung as James Beaufort, and Sonja Weiรer as Lydia, Ben Felipe as Cyril, and Fedja van Huรชt as Mortimer.
