HBO’s hit series Euphoria is officially adding Jeff Wahlberg to its cast for the upcoming third season. Wahlberg will have a recurring role, though specific details about his character are being kept secret. The new season, which began filming in early 2025, will feature a significant time jump, moving the main characters out of high school and into a new phase of their lives.
Returning Cast And New Additions
The core cast from the previous seasons is set to return. Zendaya will be back as Rue Bennett, alongside Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaughn. Other returning series regulars include Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, and Maude Apatow. Colman Domingo will return as a guest star.
They will be joined by several actors promoted to series regulars, including Martha Kelly and Chloe Cherry. New series regulars also include Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Toby Wallace. Many other familiar faces from the original cast are confirmed to return.
Jeff Wahlberg is among a large group of new actors joining the show. Other newcomers include musician Rosalรญa, former NFL player Marshawn Lynch, and actors Danielle Deadwyler, Natasha Lyonne, and Asante Blackk.
Behind The Scenes And Story Direction
Production for the eight-episode season started on February 10, 2025, in Los Angeles. The creator, Sam Levinson, returns to write, direct, and executive produce. The show is produced in partnership with A24.
The storyline for the new season will move forward in time. The characters will no longer be in high school, allowing the show to explore their young adult lives. Creator Sam Levinson has described his vision for the third season as a “film noir.” He indicated that the story will follow Rue as she navigates what it means to hold onto principles in a corrupt world.
Zendaya has expressed her own excitement about this narrative shift.
“I think itโll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school,” she said. “I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look.”
In a 2025 interview, Sydney Sweeney described the new season as “unhinged,” while Colman Domingo previously teased that Levinson would take “big swings” with the story, aiming to get deeper into the characters’ lives.
Remembering Departing Characters
Some familiar faces will not be returning for the new season. Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, announced her departure from the show in 2022. Storm Reid, who played Rue’s younger sister Gia, has also confirmed she will not return.
The show will also continue without Angus Cloud, who played Fezco and died in 2023. How the show will address his character’s story remains to be seen. His co-star Maude Apatow posted a tribute, calling him “the funniest person ever” and “the sweetest.”
Release Information
After facing several delays, Euphoria Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in the spring of 2026. The production timeline was affected by various factors, including the 2023 Hollywood labor strikes and the busy schedules of its in-demand cast.
