A new city and a new romance are on the horizon for Emily Cooper. Season 5 of Emily in Paris will premiere on Netflix on December 18, 2025. All 10 episodes will be released at once for a full-season binge. The show has shared its first teaser and a bold new poster featuring the phrase “Ciao Rome. Ciao Paris,” setting the stage for Emily’s biggest adventure yet.
The upcoming season marks the series’ first major location shift. Following the events of Season 4, Emily will move to Italy to open the new Rome office for her marketing firm, Agence Grateau. The story will now bridge two iconic European capitals, as the American expat tries to build a life in Rome while still being drawn back to the life she left in Paris.
The New “Ciao Rome, Ciao Paris” Poster and Its Meaning
The official Season 5 poster released by Netflix features star Lily Collins as Emily Cooper in a chic red dress. She stands confidently between artistic renderings of two landmarks: the Eiffel Tower representing Paris and the Colosseum representing Rome. The tagline, “Ciao Rome. Ciao Paris,” is intentionally ambiguous. “Ciao” is an Italian word used for both “hello” and “goodbye”.
This has led to much discussion about what the new season holds. Is Emily simply greeting her new Roman life while waving to her Parisian past? Or could the title signal that by the season’s end, she will have to say a permanent goodbye to one city, and by extension, to one of the men in her life? The poster cleverly frames the central question of the season without providing an answer.
Creator Darren Star explained the thinking behind the expanded setting:
โThis season is a tale of two cities: Rome and Paris. Straddling both, Emily takes love and life to the next level.โ
He also made it clear that adding Rome doesn’t mean abandoning the show’s original home. โEmilyโs going to have a presence in Rome. It doesnโt mean sheโs not going to be in Paris,โ Star said.
Returning Cast and Exciting New Additions
The main cast from previous seasons will return for the Italian adventure. This includes Lily Collins as Emily, Lucas Bravo as chef Gabriel, Ashley Park as best friend Mindy Chen, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as boss Sylvie Grateau.
Key to the new season is Eugenio Franceschini, who returns as the charming Italian fashion heir, Marcello. He and Emily sparked a connection at the end of Season 4, and their romance is set to deepen in Rome. The season also welcomes several notable new cast members:
- Minnie Driver joins as Princess Jane, a friend of Sylvie’s who married into royalty.
- Bryan Greenberg will play Jake, an American living in Paris.
- Michรจle Laroque appears as Yvette, an old friend of Sylvie.
One character who will not return full-time is Camille, played by Camille Razat. Creator Darren Star noted that her story reached a natural conclusion in the previous season.
What Happened in Season 4 and What to Expect Next
Season 4 ended with a major turning point for Emily. After a painful breakup with Gabriel, she accepted an offer from Sylvie to leave Paris and open a new office for their firm in Rome. She made the move alongside Marcello, who had been courting her.
The new season picks up with Emily trying to settle into her Roman life as the head of Agence Grateau’s Italian branch. However, building a new routine is complicated by professional challenges and the lingering emotional ties to her old life in Paris. The official season description hints at significant drama: a work idea will backfire, creating fallout that affects Emily’s personal and professional world.
The core love triangle between Emily, Gabriel, and Marcello will be a central focus. While Emily explores a fresh start with the supportive Marcello, Gabriel is expected to confront his past decisions. Lily Collins teased the dynamic, stating:
โMarcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily, because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work-life balance. He comes at that perfect time.โ
She also addressed Gabriel’s situation, adding, โUnfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice.โ
Beyond Emily’s love life, the season will also follow the journeys of her friends. A brief moment in the Season 5 trailer has sparked questions about a potential new connection between Emily’s best friend Mindy and her ex-boyfriend Alfie, played by Lucien Laviscount.
Filming Locations and Global Release Schedule
For the first time, production for Emily in Paris expanded beyond France. The cast and crew filmed for four weeks in Rome before returning to complete production in Paris. Scenes were also shot in the beautiful city of Venice. This allows the show to deliver the same picturesque, travel-inspired aesthetic, just with a new Italian backdrop.
The global release is straightforward. All 10 episodes of Emily in Paris Season 5 will become available to stream on Netflix worldwide on Wednesday, December 18, 2025. Netflix will release the entire season at once, typically at 12:00 AM Pacific Time (3:00 AM Eastern Time). This means viewers in different time zones can start watching as soon as it becomes the 18th in their region.
The series has been a major hit for Netflix. Season 4 ranked number one on the service’s Global Top 10 list when it premiered, amassing 19.9 million views in just its first four days and reaching the Top 10 in 93 countries.
