Percy Jackson Season 2 Cast Guide: Meet Every Hero, Villain, and New Face

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2

(

)

The main trio is back, but the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has grown much bigger for Season 2. The new season, which began streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on December 10, 2025, adapts the second book, The Sea of Monsters. The story finds Percy, Annabeth, and Grover facing higher stakes and a cast of characters that has expanded with both returning favorites and important new additions. This guide breaks down exactly who is playing each hero, villain, god, and monster.

The Core Trio of Heroes Returns

The heart of the show remains the three young demigods whose friendship was forged in Season 1, and all actors have returned for the new adventures.

Walker Scobell once again plays the title role of Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon. After stopping a war between gods in the first season, Percy returns to a Camp Half-Blood under siege and must venture into the dangerous Sea of Monsters. The actor has noticeably grown since the first season, bringing a more experienced presence to the young hero.

Leah Sava Jeffries reprises her role as Annabeth Chase, the brilliant daughter of Athena. Season 2 explores the changes in her friendship with Percy after a year apart, with new tensions and challenges arising as they work together. Jeffries has noted that her character is deeply hurt by the betrayal of their former friend, Luke, which affects her judgment on the new quest.

Aryan Simhadri is back as Grover Underwood, Percyโ€™s best friend and a satyr protector. Groverโ€™s search for the lost god Pan at the end of Season 1 leads him directly into danger, making his rescue a primary goal of the new seasonโ€™s quest.

Villains and Rivals Stepping into the Spotlight

Several characters who played supporting roles in the first season are now moving to the forefront with larger, more complex stories.

Charlie Bushnell returns as Luke Castellan, the demigod son of Hermes whose betrayal was revealed in the Season 1 finale. In Season 2, Luke is a confident antagonist actively working to bring down Olympus by serving the Titan Kronos. The show makes a change from the book by revealing his act of poisoning Thaliaโ€™s protective tree early on, creating immediate confrontation.

Dior Goodjohn also has an expanded role as Clarisse La Rue, the fierce daughter of Ares. Once just Percyโ€™s rival, Clarisse becomes a main character in Season 2 as she leads the official camp-sanctioned quest to find the Golden Fleece, forcing her into an uneasy partnership with Percy and his friends.

Major New Faces Joining the Quest

The adaptation of The Sea of Monsters introduces several key characters from the books, brought to life by a mix of new and established actors.

  • Daniel Diemer joins the cast as Tyson, Percyโ€™s cyclops half-brother. In a change from the novel, Percy already knows Tysonโ€™s true nature from the start of the season, allowing their brotherly dynamic to develop faster.
  • Timothy Simons plays Tantalus, the new, harsh activities director at Camp Half-Blood who replaces Chiron.
  • Tamara Smart portrays Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus. Her backstory with Luke and Annabeth is explored in flashbacks throughout the season.
  • The trio of Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho take on the roles of the Gray Sisters, the mythical share one eye and one tooth who run a taxi service in New York.

The Gods of Olympus: Returning and Recast

The immortal parents and rulers continue to influence events, with one significant casting change.

Toby Stephens returns as Poseidon, Percyโ€™s father. Virginia Kull is back as Percyโ€™s mortal mother, Sally Jackson. Glynn Turman reprises his role as the wise centaur Chiron, though he is fired from camp early in the season. Jason Mantzoukas returns as Dionysus (Mr. D), and Lin-Manuel Miranda and Adam Copeland are back for guest appearances as Hermes and Ares, respectively.

A poignant change comes with the role of Zeus, king of the gods. The late Lance Reddick played the part in Season 1. For Season 2, Courtney B. Vance has taken over the role. Vance honored his predecessor, stating he would be “giving my brother, Lance Reddick, who left us way too soon, a heavenly hug”.

New to the divine cast is singer and actress Andra Day, who has been cast as Athena, Annabethโ€™s mother.

What Is the Story of Season 2?

Season 2 picks up with Percy returning to Camp Half-Blood for a new summer. He finds the campโ€™s protective magic failing because Thaliaโ€™s tree has been poisoned, and his friend Grover is missing in the Sea of Monsters. To save both, Percy needs the magical Golden Fleece. Although the campโ€™s official quest is given to Clarisse, Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson set off on their own unsanctioned journey into the sea, facing monsters and challenges to find the Fleece and their friend.

The season is described as more epic and cinematic than the first, featuring large-scale sequences like a chariot race filmed over nearly two weeks and a battle with the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis.

Season 2 Release Schedule

The season premiered with two episodes on December 10, 2025. New episodes are released weekly every Wednesday. The full eight-episode schedule is:

“I think the reason so many people watch is because thereโ€™s somebody for everyone to relate to,” said Walker Scobell, reflecting on the show’s broad appeal.

The expansion of the cast allows the show to move beyond Percyโ€™s first-person perspective from the books. As executive producer Dan Shotz explained, the TV format lets the audience “invest more in all of these charactersโ€™ arcs rather than just hearing from one POV”.
