Behind The Scenes Glimpse From Kim Go Eun’s Personal Account
On December 13, Kim Go Eun updated her followers with a series of photos directly from the filming set. The images showed a mix of relaxed moments and the demanding reality of filming a dark thriller.
One photo captured the actress resting between intense scenes, wrapped in a blanket on a chair. She also posted a striking close-up selfie that highlights the very short haircut she adopted for the role. Other pictures show her fully immersed in her character, including scenes where she appears as an inmate with visible signs of distress. The photos also featured warm moments with her co-star, Jeon Do Yeon, showcasing their strong connection on set.
The post was captioned simply with the drama’s title, ‘The Price of Confession’, along with heart and crying emojis. Fans from around the world flooded the comments with messages of praise and admiration for her performance.
Kim Go Eun Explains The Deep Psychology Of Her Character Mo-eun
In a detailed interview, Kim Go Eun shared the extensive thought process behind her portrayal of Mo-eun. She explained that she approached the character as someone emotionally shattered.
“When a person experiences a certain level of shock and emotional overload, they can break down, almost as if they explode. I imagined and contemplated Mo-eun in such a state,” Kim Go Eun said.
She described Mo-eun’s speech pattern as a flat “listing” of facts, devoid of emphasis, reflecting the character’s deep sense of unworthiness. This choice makes Mo-eun seem mysterious and unreadable to other characters, even though she is speaking her true feelings.
A major physical transformation for the role was the buzz cut. Kim Go Eun revealed this was a deliberate choice to strip the character of any place to hide.
“I wanted her to be a character with nowhere to hide, not even behind a single strand of hairโฆ With Mo-eun’s length, you can’t even part it,” she explained.
Regarding the character’s true nature, Kim Go Eun clarified that Mo-eun is not a psychopath, as she may initially appear. Instead, she is a person broken by trauma, who at times performs the role of a psychopath as part of her plan. The actress’s goal was to express everything with minimal facial movement, carefully avoiding any overacting.
Jeon Do Yeon Discusses The Physical And Emotional Demand Of Her Role
Co-star Jeon Do Yeon, who plays the wrongly accused Ahn Yoon Soo, also spoke about the challenges of the project. She admitted the role was more demanding than she initially expected.
“When I decided to take the role, I hadn’t seen the full script, so I didn’t realize it would be such a demanding project,” Jeon Do Yeon stated. She called it one of the most physically demanding projects of her career.
Jeon Do Yeon’s performance relies heavily on conveying a profound sense of desperation through her expressions. She noted that the director even asked her during filming if she was making “too serious a face”. She believes this might be the project where she used her facial muscles the most.
A key element of her character is a vibrant, patterned wardrobe, which stands in stark contrast to her grim prison surroundings. Jeon Do Yeon shared that she contributed ideas to this look, wanting to portray Yoon Su as a carefree spirit unconcerned with others’ opinions.
The dynamic between the two female leads was a major draw for Jeon Do Yeon. She expressed special admiration for working with Kim Go Eun again, a decade after their first project together.
“When we first metโฆ Kim was just starting out as a rookie actor. Over the past decadeโฆ she has grown tremendously and become an impressive performer,” Jeon Do Yeon said.
Fan Reactions And Global Success Of The Netflix Thriller
The release of the behind-the-scenes photos sparked immediate enthusiasm from fans online. Comments poured in praising Kim Go Eun’s acting and her drastic hairstyle change.
The series itself has found a strong international audience. Following its release on December 5, ‘The Price of Confession’ earned the number two spot on Netflix’s global chart for non-English television series.
Fans on social media have been discussing the series, with many urging others to watch without spoilers. Comments highlight the powerful performances, particularly from the two leads.
Insights Into The Filming Process And On-Set Chemistry
The interviews with the cast reveal a collaborative and sometimes playful atmosphere on set, despite the serious subject matter. Kim Go Eun shared a funny story about working with veteran actress Kim Sun Young, who plays the prisoner Walsun.
“We couldn’t stop laughing,” Kim Go Eun recalled. “I even joked, ‘Why do you curse so much, sunbae-nim? My ears are going to bleed.’”
She described a scene where Walsun shouts into Mo-eun’s ear, and her pained reaction was a genuine response to Kim Sun Young’s intense acting.
In a unique approach to preserving the story’s major twists, director Lee Jeong Hyo did not initially tell the actors the identity of the real culprit. Kim Go Eun said she wasn’t interested in guessing, focusing entirely on her own character’s journey.
For Kim Go Eun, a major reason for joining the project was the opportunity to work with Jeon Do Yeon again. She views ‘The Price of Confession’ as the end of a busy period of back-to-back projects and is looking forward to starting her next work with a fresh mindset. Her next announced project is the historical romance drama ‘Soul’.
Jeon Do Yeon, reflecting on her long career, expressed a desire to explore more emotionally warm stories, specifically melodramas, in the future.
