Chad Powers will get a second season on Hulu, and production is moving forward quickly. The football comedy series, starring Glen Powell, has reportedly targeted a start date for filming its new season. This news comes just weeks after Hulu confirmed the show would continue. Fans of the South Georgia Catfish can expect the story of Russ Holliday’s double life to keep going, with the core creative team returning.
Season 2 Renewal And Fast-Tracked Production
Hulu officially renewed Chad Powers for a second season in early December 2025. The show’s first season, which consisted of six episodes, performed well for the streamer. It consistently ranked on Luminate’s weekly list of top streaming shows, starting with nearly 1.6 million hours viewed for its premiere.
Following the renewal, reports about production plans emerged quickly. According to industry sources, filming for Season 2 is expected to begin in January 2026. This suggests the show is being fast-tracked, moving from renewal to the start of production in a matter of weeks. This short turnaround is notable for a streaming series, where fans often wait over a year between seasons.
What We Know About Season 2’s Story
The first season ended with major questions unanswered. The finale saw the South Georgia Catfish taking the field against the powerful Georgia Bulldogs for a crucial game. At the same time, assistant coach Ricky Hudson discovered the true identity of quarterback Chad Powers. These parallel tensions created a significant cliffhanger.
Series co-creator Michael Waldron has shared some thoughts on where the story could go. He indicated that a second season would likely pick up soon after the events of the finale, continuing the story in “pretty much real time”. A key new dynamic would be Ricky’s forced involvement in Russ’s secret.
“If weโre lucky enough to get to make a Season 2, whatโs clear is that whether she likes it or not, Ricky has been pulled into this conspiracy,” Waldron said. “So itโs her, Russ, and Danny pulling off Chad Powers. And thatโs a whole new, really fun dynamic.”
Waldron and Powell have also mentioned ideas for potential guest stars in a new season, including big names from sports and entertainment.
The Team Returning For The New Season
Glen Powell is set to return as both the disgraced quarterback Russ Holliday and his alter ego, Chad Powers. Powell also co-created the series with Michael Waldron, who is returning as writer and executive producer.
While Hulu has not released an official cast list for the new season, the main actors from Season 1 are expected to return. This likely includes:
- Perry Mattfeld as Ricky Hudson
- Steve Zahn as Coach Jake Hudson
- Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd
- Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny, the team mascot
- Wynn Everett as booster chair Tricia Yeager
Executive producers Eli Manning and Peyton Manning, whose original “Eli’s Places” sketch inspired the series, are also expected to continue their roles.

Filming Schedule And Potential Release
The reported January 2026 start for filming is based on industry listings and reports from trade publications. It is important to note this is a projected schedule and not an official announcement from Hulu. However, such listings are a strong indicator of the production’s plans.
If filming begins as reported, it could point to a potential release date for Season 2 in late 2026. The creators have expressed a desire not to make fans wait too long for new episodes. The first season was filmed in Georgia, and it is likely the production will return to the state for Season 2.
