Elizabeth Olsen is set to lead a new family drama for FX and Hulu. Seven Sisters, the pilot starring Olsen, has been given a full series order. The show will stream in the United States on Hulu and internationally on Disney+. This marks a major step for a project first announced as a pilot earlier this year.

The series comes from writer Will Arbery, known for his work on Succession, and reunites Olsen with director Sean Durkin. They last worked together on Olsen’s breakout film, Martha Marcy May Marlene, 15 years ago. The show features a large ensemble cast, including recent Emmy winner Cristin Milioti and Succession star J. Smith-Cameron.

The Story and Cast of Seven Sisters

The story focuses on a large family that is very close. Things start to fall apart when one sister, Adrienne, played by Elizabeth Olsen, begins to hear a voice that no one else can hear. This strange event forces the family to deal with secrets they have kept hidden for a long time.

The show has a large and talented cast to tell this story. Playing the sisters alongside Olsen are Cristin Milioti, Meredith Hagner, Odessa Young, Zoë Winters, Bridget Brown, and Carolyn Kettig. Philip Ettinger plays the sisters’ brother. The parents of the family are played by Anthony Edwards and J. Smith-Cameron. Ryan Eggold has been cast as Adrienne’s husband.

“We’ve been on the lookout for a compelling family drama, and when Will Arbery and Garrett Basch brought us Seven Sisters we found one that felt uniquely FX,” said Gina Balian, President of FX Entertainment.

She added that the show explores family dynamics in a bold way with an unexpected twist that will keep audiences guessing.

Behind the Scenes and a Key Reunion

The series is executive produced by Will Arbery, Garrett Basch, and Sean Durkin. For Garrett Basch, this is his fifth series project with FX, following shows like What We Do in the Shadows and Reservation Dogs.

A notable part of this project is the reunion between Elizabeth Olsen and director Sean Durkin. They first worked together on the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene, which was a critical success and helped launch Olsen’s career. Olsen shared her thoughts on working with Durkin again after so many years.

“It was more fun than I ever expected,” Olsen said. “It was really nice to get to work with each other again after 15 years of going off and developing ourselves in different ways — with life and with work.”

What We Know About Release

The series order was officially announced on December 17, 2025. While a specific premiere date has not been set, the show is listed for a 2026 release window. The show will be produced by FX Productions.

For viewers in the United States, Seven Sisters will be available to stream on Hulu. For audiences around the world, the series will be released on Disney+. This global release plan is similar to how other FX on Hulu originals, like The Bear and Shōgun, have been distributed.
