Andrew Guest, a consulting producer on the Marvel series, confirms creative talks for a second season happened but the project did not move forward. The comments come after years of speculation and mixed messages from star Jeremy Renner about continuing the story. While the creative team explored ideas, Guest states that logistical challenges within Marvel’s schedule ultimately prevented the season from happening.
What Andrew Guest Said About Season 2 Plans
In a recent interview, Andrew Guest provided a clear update on the status of Hawkeye. He confirmed that the team did discuss and develop story ideas for a potential second season.
“There was talk at a certain point aboutโฆ we did explore creatively what Season 2 of ‘Hawkeye’ might be if we were able to do it,” Guest said. “Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out in terms of Marvel and all the various pieces that need to come together.”
Guest, who is currently the showrunner for Marvel’s upcoming Wonder Man series, worked on the first season of Hawkeye as a consulting producer. He praised the dynamic between the show’s leads, adding, “I think [Jeremy] Renner and Hailee Steinfeld are so terrific together, and I would love to see more of those two.”
Conflicting Updates from Jeremy Renner
The update from Guest adds another layer to a confusing back-and-forth about the show’s future from its star. Jeremy Renner has given fans several different statements over the past year.
In May 2025, Renner said he turned down what he described as an “insult offer” from Marvel to return for a second season, which would have involved a lengthy nine-month shoot. He reportedly declined because the offer was for half of his salary from the first season.
However, by September 2025, his position softened. Renner indicated he would be open to returning, believing there was more story to tell for his character. Then, in October 2025, he gave a more hopeful update on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, directly contradicting the current news.
“We got to where we’re trying to do the second season,” Renner said in October. “And I think I’ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we’ll work it out. It’s gonna be great.”
Renner’s reference to getting “strong enough” relates to his recovery from a near-fatal snowplow accident on New Year’s Day 2023 that left him with 38 broken bones. His physical rehabilitation has been a factor in his ability to commit to an action-heavy role.
The Story Ideas for a Second Season
Before plans stalled, the creative team had specific ideas for where the story would go. Renner previously revealed that a second season would have kept the Christmas holiday setting that defined the first season.
Rumors and reports suggested the plot would involve Clint Barton and his protรฉgรฉ, Kate Bishop, facing off against Clint’s brother, Barney Barton. In Marvel comics, Barney is the villain Trickshot, an expert marksman and hand-to-hand fighter. Jeremy Renner himself backed up these reports, confirming the season would be inspired by the action movie The Raid and would feature a battle with Trickshot.
This premise would have fit the show’s established tone, focusing on street-level action and Clint Barton’s complicated family history.

Where the Hawkeye Characters Are Now
While a second season of their own show seems unlikely, key characters from Hawkeye continue to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop is widely expected to be a core member of the future Young Avengers team. She last appeared in the 2023 film The Marvels and is a likely candidate for the upcoming Avengers movies.
Alaqua Cox, who played Maya Lopez, led her own solo series, Echo, which streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, and his character is set to be a major part of the new Daredevil: Born Again series. Florence Pugh has reprised her role as Yelena Belova in Thunderbolts and is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in December 2026.
