The hit movie A Minecraft Movie is coming to streaming soon. Fans can watch the adventure comedy on Max starting June 20. The film will also air on HBO on June 21 at 8 PM ET.
Starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, the movie became a box office success, earning $951 million worldwide. It is the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation ever, just behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The story follows four people who get pulled into the blocky world of Minecraft. They team up with a crafter named Steve (Jack Black) to fight monsters and find their way home. The cast includes Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.
A Minecraft Movie first released in theaters on April 4, 2025. It surprised many by becoming one of the biggest hits of the year. Despite mixed reviews from critics, audiences loved its humor and fun action scenes.
The movie is already available to rent or buy digitally. Fans can get it on Prime Video for $19.99 (rental) or $24.99 (purchase). A special steelbook Blu-ray release is also coming on June 24.
Warner Bros. confirmed the Max streaming date after the film’s strong box office run. An ASL (American Sign Language) version, performed by interpreter Sophia Morales, will also be available on Max.
The movie’s success comes from its mix of comedy, adventure, and nostalgia for the game. One scene, called the “Chicken Jockey” moment, became a viral favorite. Fans in theaters cheered and clapped during key moments, making it a fun experience.
A Minecraft Movie was directed by Jared Hess, known for Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. The screenplay was written by Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta.
The film’s budget was $150 million, but it earned more than five times that amount. This makes it one of the most profitable movies of 2025. Its success has already sparked talks about a possible sequel.
For fans who want more Minecraft fun, free in-game content is available in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. This includes new adventures based on the movie.
“Reviews are not good, but these pictures are made for moviegoers, not critics. When a release catches fire like this, it generates its own momentum,” said David A. Gross, a movie industry expert.
Some viewers compared the film to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, another adventure comedy with Jack Black. While the story is simple, the movie’s energy and humor kept audiences entertained.
The PG-rated film runs for 1 hour and 41 minutes. It includes mid-credits and post-credits scenes, so fans should stay until the end.
With its Max release, even more fans can now enjoy A Minecraft Movie at home. Whether watching for the first time or rewatching favorite scenes, the blocky adventure is just a click away.
