The new Netflix movie A Time for Bravery throws a therapist into a police officer’s dangerous world, ending with a job offer that leaves everyone guessing. The Mexican action-comedy film, which was released on the streaming service on December 19, 2025, follows an unlikely partnership that stumbles into a major conspiracy. While the corrupt plot is stopped, the final scene focuses on one burning question for the two main characters and the audience: what is Mariano Silverstein’s true identity?

How the Movie Sets the Stage

The story begins with two men being killed for leaking secrets about a mysterious job. The case of their disappearance lands with police officer Diaz, but his superiors are worried about him. Diaz has just discovered his wife is unfaithful, and he is emotionally broken. As a solution, the department assigns him a psychoanalyst for on-the-job therapy.

That psychoanalyst is Mariano Silverstein. Silverstein is not there by choice; he is completing court-ordered community service after a traffic accident. His task is to follow Diaz for a day, offering psychological support during police work. What starts as a simple ride-along quickly spirals out of control.

The Unlikely Bond and a Twisted Conspiracy

Silverstein’s first job is to help Diaz deal with his personal crisis. He learns that Diaz, who is devastated by his wife’s cheating, has also been unfaithful himself during their marriage and is terrified of being alone. Silverstein pushes him to finally confront his wife, which gives Diaz some emotional relief.

The tables turn during a tense dinner at Silverstein’s home. Diaz suspects Silverstein’s partner, Diana, is also having an affair. He confronts her, and she admits it. Suddenly, Silverstein is the one who needs support. The two men, now bonded by shared personal betrayal, focus on their investigation, which leads them to a man named Lisandro Prada. Prada reveals he is an officer with Mexico’s National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and has Diaz arrested.

The head of the NIA, Gerardo Solares, is the mastermind behind a dangerous plot. His goal is to steal uranium from nuclear waste to build and sell bombs on the black market. He had the two men from the beginning killed because they were expendable parts of his plan to steal special containers from the army. Diaz is seen as a threat to this operation, so Solares detains him. Silverstein, realizing his new friend is in grave danger, decides to act.

The Final Showdown and a Surprising Shot

Silverstein manages to sneak into the heavily guarded NIA headquarters to rescue Diaz but is captured. Their situation seems hopeless until Diaz’s honest police colleagues arrive for a rescue. Together, they storm the Camarasa factory where Solares’s team is trying to steal the uranium.

During the final clash, Solares’s men attempt to escape with a truck containing the radioactive material. Diaz shouts for Silverstein to shoot and stop the vehicle. In a moment that surprises everyone, Silversteinโ€”a man who had never handled a gunโ€”takes a perfect shot. He disables the truck without harming the driver or damaging the uranium container. Solares is arrested, and his scheme is foiled.

The Ending: A Job Offer and a Big Question

With the mission over, a senior officer from another security agency approaches Silverstein and Diaz. He praises their work and offers them both jobs as agents.

Diaz is immediately interested. Silverstein, however, turns the offer down. This makes Diaz suspicious. He has just watched the therapist break into a secure facility, take down trained agents, and make an impossible shot.

Diaz questions if Silverstein has been a spy all along.

Silverstein calmly denies it. He states clearly that he is not a spy. But then he adds a crucial detail: he is not a spy “yet”. This word changes everything. It means he is now considering a path that would lead him to become one. The movie ends on this open note, with Silverstein leaving the door open to a completely new life and a continued partnership with Diaz.

What Happens to the Other Characters?

  • Gerardo Solares: The corrupt NIA chief is successfully arrested by Diaz’s team, signaling the collapse of his corrupt division within the agency.
  • Agent Sosa: Solares’s right-hand man is killed by Diaz during the final fight at the Camarasa factory.
  • Agent Barrera: Another of Solares’s men tasked with killing Silverstein. In a darkly comic twist, Silverstein ties him up and leaves him in a car, which is then towed away for illegal parking. His fate is left humorously ambiguous.
