A simple conversation in the villa has dramatically shifted the game on Love Island Australia 2025. Mia Torres, who was originally coupled with Mick Maio and later with new arrival Bailey McAsey, privately admitted to Alex Haye that she had been thinking about him for some time. This confession has changed both their experiences in the competition and led to their elimination from the island.
Miaโs Surprising Admission to Alex
During Love Island Australia Season 7 Episode 21, the dynamics within the villa took a sharp turn. Mia, who was then partnered with Bailey McAsey after a night together at Hotel Amor, decided to pull Alex for a private chat. Before talking to Alex, Mia explained her conflicted feelings to the cameras, stating she enjoyed her time with Bailey but was now focused on Alex.
Mia told Alex directly that while Bailey was a good guy, she was not interested in him. She confessed she had been thinking about Alex for quite some time and wanted to explore what could happen between them. Alexโs reaction was one of clear happiness and surprise. He told Mia she was a โpretty cool chickโ and that her words meant a lot to him.
โIt kind of showed me how much I did care about you. You’re very cute, so thank you. It does mean a lot,โ Alex said to Mia after her confession.
Mia later shared in her own private interview that Alex was a very sweet guy, admitting this was a type of person she did not usually give a chance in her life outside the villa.
Alexโs Reaction to Feeling He โWasted Spaceโ
For Alex Haye, a FIFO electrician from New Zealand who entered the villa as a bombshell on Day 10, Mia’s words were a major turning point. After their chat, Alex expressed to the cameras that he felt his Love Island experience had finally begun.
โI’ve been waiting ages for this. Love Island has finally started for myself. It’s felt like I’ve just been kind of like, just hovering around. Just, like, just wasting space really,โ Alex said.
This feeling of being an outsider was strong for Alex. He entered the villa when three new bombshellsโhimself, Boston, and Miaโarrived together, immediately creating tension. He was initially coupled with Sharn O’Brien, a pairing that both parties agreed was more of a friendship than a romantic connection.
How The Villa Was Already Tense Before the Confession
The confession between Mia and Alex did not happen in a vacuum. The villa was already filled with drama and shifting loyalties. Ross Weightman had broken things off romantically with Boston McCathrion, another bombshell, while remaining coupled with her for the game. Jotham Russell had returned from Hotel Amor with a new bombshell, Jaide Dixon, leaving his original partner, Gabby McCarthy, heartbroken and angry.
Furthermore, just a day before Miaโs chat with Alex, the islanders participated in a steamy Hideaway challenge. During this event, male islanders performed themed acts for the women. Alex performed as a fireman, an act his then-partner Sharn described as giving her a moment of โrevengeโ after a previous incident. Mia declared another islanderโs performance as the โhottestโ she had seen, showing she was actively assessing her options.
A New Couple Forms But Faces Immediate Elimination
Following their honest conversation, Mia asked Alex if he wanted to sleep somewhere else that night, and he agreed. Mia said she was super excited to spend time with him. This decision marked a clear shift for both of them away from their previous partners, Bailey and Sharn.
However, this new connection faced an immediate and brutal test. In the complex coupling ceremonies of Love Island, being in a strong, decided pair is essential for survival. On Day 18 of the season, a major recoupling took place where the original โvilla veteransโ got to choose partners first. This left bombshells and newer islanders vulnerable.
The result was that Alex, Mia, Bailey McAsey, and Boston McCathrion all failed to secure a coupling and were dumped from the island together. This means that despite finally finding a genuine spark with each other, Alex and Miaโs journey in the villa was cut short. They left the competition at the same time as Miaโs most recent ex-partner, Bailey, and Alexโs fellow bombshell Boston.

The Complex Love Island Australia 2025 Coupling Rules
The structure of the show played a big part in this outcome. In Love Island Australia, contestants must always be in a couple to stay on the island. They can be โdumpedโ for being single after a recoupling, by public vote, or by the decisions of other islanders. The main goal for the winning couple is a $50,000 prize.
The series, hosted by Sophie Monk, is currently filming its seventh season in Mallorca, Spain. New episodes are released Monday through Thursday on 9Now. The constant arrival of new โbombshellsโ is designed to test the existing couples, which is exactly what happened when Alex, Mia, and Boston entered.
Other couples currently navigating the game include Ross and Sharn, Mateo and Tamara, Kye and Yana, and Jotham and Jaide. The season has also seen its share of explosive drama, including exes Yana and Kye reuniting in the Hideaway and tension between Yana and her former villa best friend Lacey Butlin over Kye.
