Dina Standish Clings to Her Husband’s Body

The episode opens in Dina’s bedroom, revealing that her husband, Doug, has passed away. Instead of making funeral arrangements, Dina is shown getting ready for bed and lying down next to his body, speaking to him as if he were still alive. This isn’t a brief moment of denial; Dina keeps Doug’s body in their home for multiple days, unwilling to let go.

At the law firm, her colleagues are aware of her loss. However, Liberty becomes upset when she learns that Allura and Emerald have spoken to Dina, but Dina did not answer her calls. This sparks feelings of exclusion in Liberty, who vents about never feeling part of the “American sisterhood” at the firm. Despite advice from the others to give Dina space, Liberty decides to visit her home to pay her respects.

Carr and Liberty’s Competitive Clash at Dina’s Home

Liberty’s plan to comfort Dina immediately hits a snag when she arrives at the house at the same time as their professional rival, Carr. The two lawyers instantly clash, trading sharp insults in the driveway. They both push past the housekeeper to get inside, each carrying a dishโ€”Liberty with her mother’s shepherd’s pie and Carr with ziti from the upscale restaurant The Ivy.

Their visit takes a shocking turn when they discover that Doug’s body is still upstairs in the bedroom. While Liberty is horrified, Carr sees an opportunity. In a bid to connect with Dina, Carr delivers an extremely personal and bizarre monologue about her childhood cat, using crude language to draw a parallel to Dina’s loss. The monologue is delivered with full commitment by actress Sarah Paulson, and it oddly resonates with Dina, who invites Carr to stay while Liberty is asked to leave.

Carr seizes the moment, taking charge of the situation and organizing an elaborate, party-like wake at Dina’s home. Not to be outdone, Liberty returns later with a group of Scottish bagpipers, intending her own grand gesture. Both attempts fail to comfort Dina, who didn’t want a crowd and notes Doug hated plaid.

Allura and Chase’s Complicated Divorce

In a parallel story, Allura meets with Chase to finalize their divorce. Chase arrives hoping for reconciliation, but Allura hands him the signed divorce papers. She tells him she forgives him but also confronts him about his pattern as an “intimacy addict”. As part of his path to making amends, she gives him a listโ€”compiled by Emeraldโ€”of all the women he was with during their marriage and tells him to apologize to each one.

The apology tour, set to the song “Manchild” by Sabrina Carpenter, is a comedic montage of failures, with most women rejecting his attempts. The last and most difficult name on the list is Milan, who is pregnant with Chase’s child. Allura agrees to help broker a conversation between them to avoid a future custody battle. The meeting in Allura’s office quickly explodes, with Milan yelling and throwing her phone at Chase. In response, Chase storms out, threatening to sue for full custody and announcing that Carr will be his lawyer.

The Women Unite to Help Dina Say Goodbye

As the episode progresses, the truth about Dina’s state becomes clearer to everyone. Emerald arrives at the wake and learns from Carr that Dina still refuses to leave Doug’s body. Emerald goes upstairs to speak with Dina privately, offering gentle but firm support. Dina finally breaks down, expressing the depth of her 40-year marriage and how lost she feels without her best friend.

Later, Allura arrives at the house after her tense meeting with Chase and Milan. For the first time, all four womenโ€”Allura, Emerald, Carr, and Libertyโ€”put their rivalry aside. They sit together with Dina, offering unified comfort and honest words about Doug’s spirit having moved on. This collective effort finally reaches Dina.

“It’s time,” Dina says quietly, asking the women to call the coroner to take Doug’s body away. She gives him a final kiss goodbye, marking the painful but necessary step of letting go.

Allura’s Surprising Decision with Chase

After witnessing Dina’s intense grief and devotion, Allura makes a surprising move. She goes to Chase’s home, and the two end up in bed together. This happens despite Allura spending the episode finalizing their divorce and setting boundaries. The next morning, Chase asks if they have another chance, but Allura remains silent, leaving her intentions unclear. This decision complicates the impending legal battle over Milan’s baby, where Carr is now set to represent Chase against Milan.

The final two episodes of All’s Fair Season 1 will be released on Hulu. The show has been renewed for a second season.
