Netflix has announced the release date, trailer, and cast for its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the beloved Nickelodeon animated series that follows the adventures of Aang, the young Avatar who can master the four elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air.
The live-action series will premiere on Feb. 22, 2024, and will feature a diverse and talented cast of actors, including Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko. The series will also star Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, the ruthless ruler of the Fire Nation who seeks to conquer the world.
The series will stay faithful to the original story, which spans three seasons and 61 episodes, and will explore the rich and immersive world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, where four nations live in harmony until the Fire Nation attacks and wipes out the Air Nomads, the first step towards world domination. Aang, the last surviving Air Nomad and the reincarnated Avatar, is awakened from a 100-year slumber by Katara and Sokka, siblings from the Southern Water Tribe. Together, they embark on a quest to help Aang learn the other three elements and stop the Fire Nation from destroying the balance of the world.
