The drama in Bel-Air is wrapping up, but the world built around Will and the Banks family might just be getting started. As the fourth and final season of Peacock’s “Bel-Air” begins, showrunner Carla Banks-Waddles and studio executives are openly talking about continuing the story with new shows. The final season, which started on November 24, 2025, is being described as both an ending and a launchpad for what could come next.
The Final Season Acts as a Launchpad for New Stories
Speaking at a recent NBCUniversal event, Carla Banks-Waddles explained the thinking behind the show’s conclusion. She framed the final season as a natural graduation for the characters after following their four-year journey.
“It will feel like an ending but also a beginning,” she said. “It feels like it’s time to graduate. But I think everybody is going to be graduating to their next step, their next act and you’ll see that through each of the charactersโฆ So it will feel like an ending but it should also feel like a great beginning for what’s next for everybody”.
This idea is reflected in the plot of the new season. The story catches up with Will and Carlton as they navigate their senior year of high school, figuring out their futures amid big expectations and past decisions. Their personal growth and changing relationships suggest natural places where new stories could begin.
Network Executives Are Open to Exploring More
The interest in expanding the “Bel-Air” world isn’t just coming from the creative team. Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content at NBC Universal Entertainment, confirmed that the network is actively considering the possibility.
“Right now, we are focused on doing this very intentional last season and making sure that it is very satisfying for the audience,” Katz stated. “But, obviously looking at all of these characters, they are all so dimensionalโฆ We realize there’s so many different places we could go. So we’d be very open to exploring that and looking into that as we wrap that up”.
While no specific spinoff plans were confirmed, Katz’s comments signal that discussions are happening. The strength of the cast and the depth of their characters are seen as key reasons the universe could support more shows.
What the Final Season Will Cover Before a Potential Spinoff
The final eight-episode season has a lot of ground to cover, resolving major cliffhangers from Season 3 and setting new directions for every character.
Will and Carlton are front and center, balancing the excitement of senior year with serious choices about their futures. A new trailer shows them talking about college plans, with Carlton confidently mentioning Princeton. Their bond is highlighted as they help each other through this pivotal time.
Other major storylines include:
- Aunt Viv’s Pregnancy: The Season 3 finale hinted that Vivian Banks might be pregnant. The new season deals with her struggle to reinvent herself while looking at motherhood from a completely new perspective.
- A Crisis for Phil and Geoffrey: The trusted relationship between Uncle Phil and the family butler, Geoffrey, faces a major test. An “unexpected power shift” threatens their brotherhood and forces both men to question their loyalties to the Banks family.
- Hilary’s Journey: After her new husband, Lamarcus, was found unconscious on their honeymoon, Hilary is on a path of deep self-exploration.
- Ashley’s Rebellion: Now a freshman in high school, Ashley Banks is going through a rebellious phase, learning that the old rules might not work for her anymore.
The season also features special guest stars, including Tyra Banks as a former classmate of Viv’s and a cameo appearance by Snoop Dogg.
The Cast Reflects on a Meaningful Conclusion
The actors have shared their feelings about ending the series, echoing the showrunner’s sentiment that great care was taken with each character’s final moments. Olly Sholotan, who plays Carlton, spoke about reading the last scripts.
“In reading those last few episodes, that is the most care I’ve seen any characters in television have,” Sholotan said. “It was just really beautiful as a cast for us to read the words that [Carla] wrote and how much care she took of every character’s final moments on the show”.
Actress Coco Jones posted on social media after finishing filming, calling the experience “an ending and a new beginning” and expressing how much she would miss the cast and crew.
