At the New York premiere of his new show Margo’s Got Money Troubles on April 8, 2026, Kelley shared where things stand with the long-awaited return of the series. The Wait Almost Over After Six Years Since Season 2
Big Little Lies first arrived on HBO in 2017. The show became a huge hit right away. It told the story of five women in Monterey, California whose perfect lives fall apart after a murder happens at their children’s school. The cast included Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz. Season two came out in 2019 and added Meryl Streep to the group. That was six years ago.

The third season will follow the story from author Liane Moriarty’s new book Big Little Truths. The book comes out on August 25, 2026. It jumps forward ten years in time. The children from the first two seasons are now teenagers in high school. The problems they face are much bigger now.
The book’s description says the story begins when “a strange man lurks around the school asking supposedly innocent questions and the principal receives a severed human finger in the mail”. The women must finally deal with all the secrets they have kept from their kids, from each other, and from themselves.
Celeste’s mother-in-law Mary Louise starts acting strange. Madeline faces her biggest challenge yet. Jane has trouble in her marriage. Bonnie finds out yoga can only help so much. And Renata is living her best life getting revenge.
Main Cast Expected to Return for New Season
All the main stars are expected to come back for season three. This includes Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz. Meryl Streep may also return since her character Mary Louise plays a big role in the new book’s story. Adam Scott, Alexander Skarsgård, and other cast members from earlier seasons could also be back.
Shailene Woodley spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in March 2026 about the new season. She said, “If I knew anything, I would spill every bean, but I literally know nothing! That is not me pretending. I know nothing — apart from that we are doing a third season”. She joked that for all she knows her character Jane could end up living in Australia.
Kelley Praises Working with Nicole Kidman
At the Margo’s Got Money Troubles premiere, Kelley also talked about what it is like working with Nicole Kidman again. She appears in his new show as well. He said, “It’s a little bit of luck. There’s a lot of people dying to work with Nicole”.
Kelley added, “She’s obviously a gifted actress. The fact that we’ve worked together in the past gave us an inside track, I guess, on this project”. He explained that her role in Margo’s Got Money Troubles is very different from what she usually plays. When he told her about the part, he thought she might say no. But instead, Kidman jumped in and said, “Let’s go for it!”
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is a dramedy about a single mother struggling with money. It stars Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman. The show will be available on Apple TV+ starting April 15, 2026.
