Billie Eilish, the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter, has recently opened up about her sexuality and her love life in a series of interviews. The 22-year-old star, who is known for her hit songs like “Bad Guy”, “Everything I Wanted”, and “Happier Than Ever”, has confirmed that she is queer and single after breaking up with her boyfriend, actor Matthew Tyler Vorce.
Billie Eilish’s Dream About Christian Bale
One of the reasons that led to the end of her relationship with Vorce was a dream that she had about another actor, Christian Bale. Eilish revealed this surprising story in an interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg for the Oscars Nominees ‘Pre-Luncheon’ Luncheon. She said that she had a dream about Bale a couple of years ago, where they were at a little cafe in the sunlight, and it made her realize that she had to break up with her boyfriend at the time.
“I got to be real,” Billie Eilish said as her brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas, let out a laugh. “A couple years ago I had a dream about Christian Bale and it was at a little cafe in the sunlight, and it made me realize that I had to breakup with my boyfriend.”
“I woke up and I came to my senses,” she added. “It’s over.”
Billie Eilish did not name which boyfriend she was referring to, but she was most likely talking about Vorce, whom she dated for about a year from 2021 to 2022. The two sparked dating rumors in April 2021, when they were photographed getting close on a coffee run in Santa Barbara, California. They were also seen holding hands and cuddling in Disneyland in June 2021. However, they never publicly confirmed their relationship, and they reportedly called it quits in May 2022, following cheating rumors.
Vorce, who has appeared in horror films such as Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? and Little Monsters, as well as several short films, denied the cheating allegations and announced their split on his Instagram Story. “Nobody cheated on anyone. Relationships end. Simple as that,” he wrote. “Creating rumors and LYING on the internet is dangerous.”
Billie Eilish’s Queer Identity
Another reason why Billie Eilish and Vorce might have broken up was her attraction to women, which she has recently confirmed in another interview. Eilish spoke to Howard Stern on his radio show on Monday, and revealed that she is physically attracted to women, but she can’t relate to them much.
“I love women. I’m physically attracted to women. I don’t know if I could ever be with a woman, because I just don’t relate to them very much,” she said. “I don’t know what it is. I think it’s just because I’ve been around men my whole life. I’ve been around my brother, I’ve been around my dad, I’ve been around my managers, I’ve been around my security, I’ve been around my tour manager. I’ve just been around dudes.”
Billie Eilish said that she has always been open about her sexuality, but she didn’t know that people didn’t already suspect her queer identity. She said that she was surprised that her interview with Vanity Fair in November 2022, where she gushed over her then-boyfriend Jesse Rutherford, was considered as her coming-out moment.
“I didn’t know that was a thing. I didn’t know that was a coming-out moment. I was like, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’ I thought everybody knew,” she said. “I mean, I’ve been saying it for years. I’ve been saying, ‘I don’t know what I am. I don’t know if I’m straight. I don’t know if I’m gay. I don’t know if I’m bi. I don’t know if I’m pan. I don’t know what I am.’”
Eilish said that she doesn’t like labels, and she doesn’t want to be defined by her sexuality. She said that she just wants to be herself, and she hopes that her fans will accept her for who she is.
“I don’t want to be anything. I just want to be me. And whatever that is, is whatever that is,” she said. “And I hope that people can respect that and love me for that.”
Billie Eilish’s Single Era
After splitting with Vorce and Rutherford, Billie Eilish is now enjoying her single era, and focusing on her music and her career. She is nominated for Best Original Song at the 96th Academy Awards for “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack. She is also set to perform at the ceremony on March 10.
Eilish said that she is happy and proud of herself, and she doesn’t need a partner to complete her. She said that she has learned to love herself, and she doesn’t want to depend on anyone else for her happiness.
“I’m good. I’m really good. I’m happier than ever, literally,” she said. “I feel like I’ve grown so much in the last year, and I’ve learned so much about myself, and I’ve learned to love myself, and I’ve learned to not need anybody else. And that’s a big thing for me, because I’ve always felt like I needed somebody else to make me happy. And I don’t. I don’t need anybody.”
Eilish said that she is open to dating in the future, but she is not looking for anyone right now. She said that she is content with being alone, and she is enjoying her freedom and independence.
“I’m not opposed to it. I’m not closed off to it. But I’m also not looking for it. I’m not searching for it. I’m not desperate for it,” she said. “I’m just living my life, and if somebody comes along that I vibe with, cool. If not, cool. I’m good either way.”
Billie Eilish said that she hopes that her fans will support her and respect her choices, and she thanked them for their love and loyalty. She said that she is grateful for their presence in her life, and she wants to make them proud.
“I love you guys so much. You guys are the best thing that ever happened to me. You guys are my everything. You guys are my reason for living. You guys are my reason for doing this. You guys are my reason for being happy. You guys are my reason for everything,” she said. “And I just want to make you happy. I just want to make you proud. I just want to make you feel something. And I hope that I do.”
