Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 2: Betrayal and Revenge

Billy the Kid

(

)

In the latest episode of Billy the Kid, the stakes in the Lincoln County War get even higher. A shocking betrayal by a trusted ally leads to a deadly ambush, the loss of a key fighter, and sets Billy on a path of cold revenge. Meanwhile, political schemes tighten their grip on the territory, and a grieving Jesse Evans makes a choice that could put him directly against his old friend.

A Trap Backfires

The episode, titled “Two Shots,” begins with immediate action. Billy and his Regulators are ambushed by Sheriff Pat Garrett and his posse. The planned trap for Garrett backfires spectacularly because one of Billy’s own men, Miguel Otero, has revealed their location. During the chaotic shootout that follows, bullets fly, and the Regulators suffer heavy losses. Juan Patron is shot in the arm, and Fred Waite is hit in the chest while trying to pull Juan to safety. Fred later dies from his wounds. Billy himself nearly manages to shoot Garrett before he and his surviving men are forced to retreat.

The failed mission forces Billy to confront his error in judgment. He had trusted Otero, who had claimed his sister was killed fighting The House. The betrayal costs the Regulators dearly, and Billy is left to vow that he will settle the score.

Billy pledges, “I made a mistake trusting Otero, and now Fred and the others are gone.”

Despite the loss, the Regulators’ resolve hardens. George Coe insists that their fight is not over. The group heads to Fort Sumner to regroup and find shelter with the sympathetic Pete Maxwell.

Political Games and Personal Tragedies

Away from the gunfights, the political machinations of The House continue. Thomas Catron is moving to seize control of the territory, plotting to have Governor Lew Wallace removed from office for failing to end the Lincoln County War. The tension spills into his personal life during a dinner celebration, where his daughter, Emily, reveals she has lost her baby.

The news sparks a bitter argument. Emily blames her father for being selfish, while her husband, Edgar Waltz, defends her. The confrontation leads Waltz to tell Catron he wants to quit his job. Catron coldly informs him that he knows too much about their operations and can never be allowed to leave. Later, Emily finds Waltz has died by suicide, leaving her to confront her father, whom she believes is responsible for her husband’s death.

In another part of the county, Major Murphy, a broken man filled with regret, gives his remaining business shares to John Riley before dying alone, possibly from a heart attack.

A New Deputy for Garrett

The episode also follows Jesse Evans, who is dealing with the death of his lover, Ana. After killing Ana’s father in an act of self-defense, Jesse is consumed by grief and anger. He gets into a brutal fight in a bar, and at his lowest point, he goes to Pat Garrett and confesses to the killing.

Seeing an opportunity, Garrett makes a cynical play. He offers Jesse a deputy’s badge, bringing him into the official manhunt for Billy. This sets up a painful conflict, as Jesse still seems to have some affection for his old friend, but now finds himself on the opposite side of the law. Historically, Jesse Evans disappeared in 1882, giving the show room to decide his ultimate fate.

Garrett’s posse, now including Jesse, tracks Billy to Pete Maxwell’s home in Fort Sumner. However, after an intense standoff and a search of the property, they leave empty-handed. Billy and his men had already escaped, setting up a camp in the wilderness to plan their next move.

Billy’s Cold Revenge

The climax of the episode focuses on Billy’s personal mission for justice. He separates from his gang and rides alone to a small town where Miguel Otero is hiding. Billy finds Miguel in a dark cantina, sitting in a corner and smiling over the coin he earned for his betrayal.

Billy steps through the doors, his eyes fixed on the man who cost him his friend. Miguel’s smile vanishes, and he moves for his gun, but Billy is faster. He draws his weapon and shoots Miguel. The man who betrayed the Regulators falls to the floor, dead. The act is swift, brutal, and shows that Billy will stop at nothing to get revenge for his fallen allies.

The episode ends with this powerful moment, marking a turning point for Billy. He is no longer just an idealistic fighter but is becoming the vengeful outlaw of legend. With his group thinner, his friend Jesse working for the enemy, and powerful forces closing in, his final ride has become more dangerous than ever.
