The world of London spies and political intrigue is officially back in production. Black Doves Season 2 has started filming, bringing back its core cast led by Keira Knightley and introducing a host of new actors to the shadowy organization. The new season promises higher stakes as Helen’s double life becomes even more dangerous.
The Core Spy Team Returns
The main characters from the first season are all set to reprise their roles for the second chapter of the spy thriller.
Keira Knightley returns as Helen Webb, the sophisticated wife of a politician who leads a dangerous double life as a spy. In the new season, Helen continues to betray state secrets to the Black Doves, but with her husband, Wallace, preparing to become Prime Minister, the risk of exposure is greater than ever.
Ben Whishaw is back as Sam Young, Helen’s best friend and a skilled triggerman. After the events of the first season, Sam finds himself in a reduced state, taking low-rate jobs and drinking alone in Soho bars. His reunion with Helen sets them on a new dangerous path.
Sarah Lancashire returns as Mrs. Reed, Helen’s enigmatic handler within the Black Doves. This season, Reed finds herself targeted by a ruthless plot designed to undermine her authority and position within the covert organization.
Additional returning cast members include Andrew Buchan as Wallace Webb, Helen’s husband and the aspiring Prime Minister, along with Kathryn Hunter as Lenny Lines, Ella Lily Hyland as Williams, Gabrielle Creevy as Eleanor, Agnes O’Casey as Dani, and Molly Chesworth as Marie.
New Faces Joining the Mystery
The second season introduces several new characters who will bring fresh dynamics and complications to the existing storyline.
Ambika Mod joins the cast as Laila, described as an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent. She is assigned to assist Helen with a mission, bringing her unique skills and perspective to the operation.
Babou Ceesay plays Mr. Conteh, a Black Doves executive whose motivations are described as suspicious. His arrival suggests internal power struggles within the organization that could threaten its stability.
Sam Riley enters the story as Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organization who offers Sam a lifeline during his professional decline. This character could provide Sam with a way out of his current situation or pull him deeper into the espionage world.
Neve Campbell takes on the role of Cecile Mason, though specific details about her character’s allegiance and function in the story remain undisclosed. Her casting signals a significant expansion of the show’s world.
Additional new cast includes Sylvia Hoeks as Katia Chernov, Goran Kostic as Alexi Chernov, and Samuel Barnett as Jerry. The shared surname between Hoeks and Kostic’s characters suggests they may be connected as part of a family or organization that poses a new threat.

Production and Story Details
Filming for Black Doves Season 2 began in London in late 2025 and is expected to continue into early 2026. The production is filming in and around London, maintaining the show’s British setting that was central to the first season.
Series creator Joe Barton expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the world of Black Doves, stating:
โI couldnโt be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family. To have so many of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favorite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same.โ
The logline for the new season reveals that Helen and Sam’s mission will “lead them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves.” This suggests the story will explore more of the characters’ backstories while putting the secret organization itself under scrutiny.
Julian Farino and Kieron Hawkes are set to direct the new episodes, taking over from the first season’s directors. The show continues to be produced by Sister and Barton’s own Noisy Bear production company.
Anne Mensah, Vice President of Content at Netflix UK, shared the streaming service’s excitement about the series return: โTo say we are overexcited about welcoming the Black Doves team back to Netflix would be an understatement. This is what happens when best-in-class writing meets best-in-class directing and extraordinary acting in a dark alley with guns and champagne.”
While an exact release date has not been announced, the production schedule suggests a potential late 2026 premiere on Netflix. The first season of Black Doves is currently available for streaming on the platform.
