The K-pop sensation Blackpink has added another feather to their cap, as their album Born Pink has been awarded the silver Brit certification by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). This is the second time that the all-girl group has achieved this feat, after their 2020 album THE ALBUM.
Born Pink: A Milestone For Blackpink
Born Pink, which was released in September 2022, is Blackpink’s first full-length album since THE ALBUM. It features 12 tracks, including two singles that topped the Billboard Global 200 chart: Pink Venom and Born Pink. The album showcases the group’s versatility and charisma, as they experiment with different genres and styles.
According to the BPI, albums are certified silver when they reach 60,000 units sold in the UK. Born Pink achieved this milestone on February 9, 2023, making it the second album by Blackpink to do so. The BRIT Awards also congratulated Blackpink on their achievement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Blackpink, which consists of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, is widely regarded as the most successful Korean girl group globally and one of the most influential figures in the Korean Wave. They have broken numerous records and barriers, becoming the first K-pop group to perform at Coachella, the first female group to have four music videos with over one billion views on YouTube, and the first K-pop act to have three albums on the Billboard 200 chart.
Besides Born Pink, Blackpink has also attained silver certification in the UK with their 2020 album THE ALBUM, and their singles Kiss and Make Up, Kill This Love, DDU-DU DDU-DU, and How You Like That. They have also collaborated with international artists such as Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Cardi B, and Dua Lipa. Blackpink is known for their girl crush concept, which expresses themes of self-confidence and female empowerment.
