BLACKPINK's Jisoo Skips Omniscient Reader Event; Fans Blame YG Entertainment for Scheduling Conflict

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo missed a key event for her upcoming movie Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, sparking anger among fans. The production briefing session brought together the full cast, including Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Min Ho, and Chae Soo Bin, but Jisoo was absent without explanation. Many fans blame her agency, YG Entertainment, for poor scheduling.

The movie marks Jisooโ€™s acting debut, making her absence from promotions more noticeable. Fans expected her to attend the event, especially since she recently supported Park Jinyoungโ€™s movie Hi.5. Some believe YG prioritizes group activities over her solo projects.

“Itโ€™s really sad that she wonโ€™t be there, but on the other hand, itโ€™s a good thing; it shows that the girls are really preparing for the comeback and the tour, right?”

Others argue Jisoo may have chosen to skip the event herself. BLACKPINK is preparing for a comeback and world tour, which could have conflicted with the schedule. Still, fans question why she couldnโ€™t spare an hour for her own movie.

Controversy Over Jisooโ€™s Character Changes in the Film

Apart from her absence, fans are upset about changes to Jisooโ€™s character, Lee Jihye, in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet. The original webtoon depicts her using a sword, but the movie teaser shows her with a gun. Many fans see this as disrespect to the source material.

“Lee Jihye isnโ€™t even a main character to begin with, so all these changes make no sense unless it’s just because Jisoo plays her and you’re desperate to use her fame to hype the project.”

The characterโ€™s original weapon, a sword, ties to Korean historical figure Admiral Yi Sun Sin. Fans argue the change erases cultural significance. The filmโ€™s CEO, Won Dong Yeon, defended the decision, saying adaptations are necessary for cinema.

Mixed Reactions from Fans

While some fans criticize YG Entertainment, others believe Jisoo made her own choice. Some say her absence is understandable given BLACKPINKโ€™s busy schedule.

“Just frustratedโ€ฆ I think itโ€™s Jisoo who doesnโ€™t want to attend because if she wanted to, she could. She has that freedom now. YG is not the culprit here.”

The film is set to release in July 2025. Fans remain divided over Jisooโ€™s absence and the character changes. Many hope for better promotion as the release date nears.
