The gritty French police drama Blood Coast is back for a second season on Netflix, returning viewers to the sun-soaked yet violent streets of Marseille. Following the intense first season, the entire main cast returns for six new episodes. The new season continues the story of Captain Lyรจs Benamar and his team as they face a fresh wave of criminal chaos.

Meet the Police Team Fighting for Marseille

The heart of Blood Coast is the dedicated yet unconventional police squad led by Captain Lyรจs Benamar.

  • Tewfik Jallab as Captain Lyรจs Benamar: Jallab reprises his role as the central figure, a judicial police officer known for his extreme and often rule-breaking methods to catch criminals. At the start of the new season, Benamar finds himself in a difficult position, reportedly incarcerated behind bars. His absence from the streets of Marseille creates a major power vacuum that new dangers will try to fill.
  • Jeanne Goursaud as Captain Alice Vidal: Goursaud returns as Benamar’s partner, Alice Vidal. Originally arriving from Interpol, she brought her own disciplined approach, which initially clashed with Benamar’s style. By the end of the first season, a strong professional bond had formed between them, and this dynamic is expected to evolve further as they face new threats.

The squad is supported by several key officers, all returning for Season 2:

  • Audrey Ilunga, played by Lani Sogoyou, is a trusted colleague of Benamar.
  • Arno Cabella, played by Olivier Barthรฉlรฉmy, is another member of Benamar’s loyal team.
  • Max “Tatoo” Russo, played by Idir Azougli, rounds out the core group of officers.

Their boss, Commissioner Fabiani, is played by Florence Thomassin. In the first season, Fabiani was often at odds with Benamar’s reckless methods but relied on him to get results. The officers also face scrutiny from Victor Miranda of the police department’s internal affairs, played by Diouc Koma.

The Criminal Underworld of Blood Coast

The police battle against a dangerous network of criminals, with several key antagonists returning.

  • Nicolas Duvauchelle as Franck Murillo: Duvauchelle plays the brutal and globally wanted drug lord, Franck Murillo, who was the primary target of the police in Season 1. While his fate seemed sealed at the end of the first season, the criminal landscape of Marseille is always shifting.
  • Samir Boitard as Ali Saรฏdi: Boitard returns as Ali Saรฏdi, a major drug dealer who operates within the city. In a tense conclusion to Season 1, authorities were forced to let Saรฏdi go free to maintain a fragile peace on the streets, leaving his future actions a significant question for the new season.
  • Moussa Maaskri as Tarek Hamadi: Maaskri reprises his role as Tarek Hamadi, also known as “The Indian,” who is a key associate of Franck Murillo.

What to Expect in Blood Coast Season 2

Season 2 picks up with the city in a state of tension. With Captain Lyรจs Benamar reportedly starting the season in prison, his team and the city must deal with his absence. This creates an opening for a new and powerful criminal gang to emerge, aiming to seize control of the entire drug trade in Marseille. The struggle for power threatens to plunge the city into another violent war.

The production for this season remained authentic to its setting, with filming taking place on location in and around Marseille throughout the winter and spring of 2025. The series is created by Kamel Guemra and is directed by the celebrated French filmmaker Olivier Marchal, a former police officer known for his gritty crime dramas. For the second season, Marchal is joined by co-writers Edgar Marie and Olivier Dujols.

The show has proven to be a major success for Netflix. The first season, released on December 6, 2023, garnered 5.6 million views in its first four days, making it one of the platform’s best European series launches at the time. It spent three consecutive weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 across 83 territories. Due to this strong performance, reports indicate that plans for a third season are already in early development.

Blood Coast Season 2 is now available to stream globally on Netflix.

Creator and director Olivier Marchal confirmed the production timeline, stating that season 2 was “being written, shot in [December of 2024], and released in 2025”.
