The final episodes of Blood Coast Season 2 deliver a dramatic and tragic conclusion that changes the power structure of Marseille forever. The story, which picks up with police captain Lyes Benamar in prison and a new drug war erupting, ends with a shocking death and a major character stepping into a dangerous new role. The season finale leaves viewers questioning where Lyes’s true loyalties lie and who will control the city’s criminal underworld.
How Ali Saidi Meets His End
The downfall of crime boss Ali Saidi is the central tragedy of the season. After losing his niece, Leila, in prisonโa death he blames on the corrupt systemโAli is a broken man. His desperation and grief reach a peak when he learns of a massive betrayal from someone he had come to trust: Lyes Benamar.
A former enemy turned uneasy ally, Lyes had been working undercover for the police while gaining Ali’s confidence. When Ali discovers that Lyes never actually killed Police Commander Victor Miranda as ordered and that Miranda is still alive, he feels a deep personal hurt. In a final, emotional confrontation, Ali kidnaps Yassine Djaoui, a rival gang leader, and brings Lyes to a secluded spot.
“He feels deeply betrayed and gives Lyes a gun to end it all. He is crushed by the total loss of his family and his criminal empire.”
In this tense moment, Ali, devastated by the loss of his family and his future, hands Lyes a gun and tells him to shoot. Lyes, whose connection to Ali goes back to their childhood, cannot bring himself to pull the trigger. However, Yassine seizes the opportunity. He breaks free, grabs the weapon, and shoots Ali dead. This act ends the reign of one of Marseille’s most powerful figures and leaves Lyes to mourn the loss of a complex friend.
The Truth About Miranda’s “Death”
One of the season’s biggest twists involves the apparent murder of Police Commander Victor Miranda. Earlier in the season, under orders from Ali to prove his loyalty, Lyes is seen shooting Miranda outside his home. The event is caught on camera and shocks Lyes’s former police team, who believe he has gone completely rogue.
In reality, the entire shooting was an elaborate trick. Knowing that Ali would seek revenge for his niece’s arrest, Lyes had warned Miranda in advance. Miranda wore a bulletproof vest, and Lyes either shot near him or at the vest, after which Miranda pretended to be dead. The staged killing was meant to solidify Lyes’s position within Ali’s gang and allow Miranda to work from hiding. This secret plan was known only to a few, including police chief Fabiani, leaving even Lyes’s closest colleagues in the dark for a time.

Lyes Benamar’s Dangerous New Position
The final moments of the season set up a fascinating and dangerous path for Lyes Benamar. Immediately after Ali’s death, a lawyer named Chris approaches Lyes. She represents Jaddou Sidi, the hidden, powerful figure behind the city’s major drug shipments. With Ali gone and the rival Djaoui gang weakened, Sidi needs a new person to control the drug trade in Marseille. Chris offers that position to Lyes.
To gain her trust, Lyes tells a crucial lie. He claims that his old police team are corrupt cops, which convinces Chris he has truly left his old life behind. The season ends with Lyes positioned as the potential new kingpin of the city. His true motive is unclear: is he accepting the role to finally bring down the entire Sidi operation from within, or has his time undercover changed him?. This question will define his character if the series continues.
The Fate of Lyes’s Family and Team
Throughout the season, Lyes’s primary motivation has been protecting his family, particularly his young daughter. He made a deal with Miranda to work undercover in exchange for help securing the release of his ex-wife, Fanny, from prison so she could regain custody of their child. By the finale, it remains uncertain if Miranda has upheld his end of this bargain.
Meanwhile, his former teamโAlice, Arno, Audrey, and Tatooโface their own struggles. They are under strict scrutiny for their unconventional methods. Audrey is also dealing with a reopened investigation into the death of a woman named Nina. The team is ultimately misled by Lyes during the final police operation against Ali. Lyes gives them information about a drug shipment, but then secretly helps Ali move the drugs, leaving the police to find an empty container and no evidence for an arrest. This double-cross leaves his former colleagues betrayed and his ultimate plan a mystery.
