The wait is finally over for fans of the gritty Korean action drama. Netflix dropped Bloodhounds Season 2 on April 3, 2026, bringing back Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi as the hard-hitting boxing duo. With the new season now streaming, many viewers are revisiting the first season and asking a big question about a key character.

Does Lee Doo-young die in Bloodhounds? The answer is not as simple as yes or no.

Who is Lee Doo-young and His Role in Bloodhounds

Lee Doo-young, played by Huh Joon-ho, is a kind-hearted money lender who helps people trapped in debt without charging interest. He serves as a father figure and mentor to the two main characters, Kim Gun-woo and Hong Woo-jin. His character stands as the complete opposite of the ruthless loan sharks the young boxers fight against.

Throughout Season 1, Doo-young provides shelter, guidance, and financial support to the young fighters. His foster granddaughter Cha Hyun-joo also becomes connected to Gun-woo and Woo-jin’s mission to take down the illegal loan shark operation led by Kim Myeong-gil.

The Truth About Lee Doo-young’s Fate

Lee Doo-young does not die in Bloodhounds Season 1. The character survives the events of the first season, though the journey is very tough for him and those around him.

Near the end of Season 1, Doo-young faces a serious threat from the loan shark organization. His health takes a major hit, and the situation looks very bad for a while. But unlike some other characters who do not make it, Doo-young pulls through.

By the final episode of Season 1, Doo-young is alive. The show leaves his condition somewhat open, but there is no on-screen death or confirmation that he passes away.

Where Does Lee Doo-young Stand in Season 2

Bloodhounds Season 2 picks up three years after the events of the first season. The story shifts focus to a new threat: an underground international boxing league run by a powerful new villain named Baek-jeong, played by K-pop icon Rain (Jung Ji-hoon).

The main storyline for Season 2 centers on Gun-woo chasing his dream of becoming a boxing champion. Woo-jin steps in as both his trainer and his family. The new antagonist pushes the duo into their hardest fight yet.

Official reports confirm the returning cast for Season 2 includes Woo Do-hwan, Lee Sang-yi, Park Sung-woong, Heo Jun-ho, and Kim Sae-ron. The presence of Heo Jun-ho in the cast list confirms that Lee Doo-young appears in Season 2, meaning the character is alive when the new season begins.

Fan Discussions About the Character’s Survival

Viewers who finished Season 1 had mixed feelings about the ending. One fan shared their thoughts on an online forum.

“I really wanna see and believe Lee Doo-young or at least his family are alive! If there were to be season 2 it’d be too bad that all the ahjusshis are gone!”

The same fan expressed hope for other characters returning, saying:

“Jae-min, our kim min jae, he needs to be back! He’s a smartass and could be used by Ill group illegally if they ever wanna enter the scene”

These reactions show how much viewers connected with the supporting characters, not just the two lead fighters.

What to Expect From Bloodhounds Season 2

All seven episodes of Bloodhounds Season 2 are now available on Netflix. Global streaming details are as follows:

  • United States: Available from April 3, 2026, on Netflix
  • United Kingdom: Available from April 3, 2026, on Netflix
  • Canada: Available from April 3, 2026, on Netflix
  • Australia: Available from April 3, 2026, on Netflix
  • India: Released at 12:30 PM IST on April 3, 2026

The new season brings back director Jason Kim, who also made Midnight Runners and The Divine Fury. Production companies Studio N, See AT Film, and Seven O Six backed the show.

At a press conference for the new season, Woo Do-hwan talked about returning to the role.

“I’m happy to be greeting audiences again through ‘Bloodhounds’ after three years. Working on Season 2, it felt like we’ve spent a long time together with Lee and the director. We were able to come back because of the love Season 1 received. It’s an honor.”

Director Kim Joo-hwan also explained the approach for Season 2.

“Season 2 follows the two protagonists as they encounter a new antagonist and engage in an even more intense, ferocious battle. We thought carefully about what the audience loved in Season 1 and how to elevate it. The goal was to make the signature elements, like the boxing action and the chemistry between the leads, more stylish and more entertaining.”

Rain, who joins as the main villain, shared why he took the role.

“I’ve long been a fan of director Kim and have followed his work. By coincidence, I came across ‘Bloodhounds’ on Netflix the day I moved and ended up binge-watching the entire series. When the offer came, I felt it was fate.”

The First Season’s Success

Bloodhounds Season 1 debuted on June 9, 2023, on Netflix. The show became a global hit very quickly. Within three days of release, it gathered 27.97 million viewing hours. The series climbed to number two on Netflix’s worldwide non-English Top 10 category and later took the number one spot.

The first season faced challenges during production. Lead actress Kim Sae-ron had a DUI incident that forced producers to shorten and heavily edit her scenes. Despite this setback, the show’s strong action sequences and the chemistry between Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi kept viewers watching.

Lee Doo-young remains alive through both seasons of Bloodhounds. Fans who worried about his fate can watch the new season knowing the kind-hearted money lender survived the events of Season 1. The character continues to be part of the story as Gun-woo and Woo-jin face their biggest challenge yet in the underground boxing world.
