Hulu has released a striking new poster for the second season of its hit historical drama A Thousand Blows, setting the stage for the series’ return on January 9, 2026. The poster, unveiled on the platform’s official social media, features the main cast amidst a crowd, signaling the intense confrontations to come in 1880s London.

The New Poster and Story Details

The newly revealed poster showcases stars Stephen Graham as Henry “Sugar” Goodson, Erin Doherty as Mary Carr, and Malachi Kirby as Hezekiah Moscow positioned within a dense crowd. The image was shared with the caption, “No room for mistakes. No time to back down,” highlighting the high-stakes environment the characters will face.

Season 2 picks up one year after the dramatic events of the first season. The storyline finds the characters in vastly different places: Hezekiah is a shadow of his former self, struggling to find his purpose after a devastating turn of events. Meanwhile, Sugar Goodson is estranged from his family and descending into alcoholism. Their worlds are shaken when Mary Carr returns to London with her loyal second-in-command, Alice Diamond, determined to reassemble her gang and reclaim her crown with a risky new plan.

The first season concluded with major cliffhangers. After discovering Mary’s involvement in his best friend Alec’s death, a heartbroken Hezekiah ended their relationship. In a separate incident, he killed his American boxing opponent in a fit of rage, putting his entire fighting career in jeopardy. These events left Hezekiah alone and directionless in London, setting the stage for a potentially darker path in the new season.

Returning and New Cast Members

The ensemble cast from the first season is set to return. In addition to the main trio, the lineup includes James Nelson-Joyce as Edward “Treacle” Goodson, Darci Shaw as Alice Diamond, and Hannah Walters as Eliza Moody. Key members of the Forty Elephants gang, including Nadia Albina, Morgan Hilaire, Jemma Carlton, and Caoilfhionn Dunne, are also returning.

The show has added Ned Dennehy and Catherine McCormack to its cast for the second season, though their specific roles have not been fully detailed.

Behind the Scenes and Show’s Direction

A Thousand Blows is created by Steven Knight, the mind behind Peaky Blinders. In a recent interview, Knight discussed the direction of the new season, stating that the stakes for the characters are now much higher.

“The characters have earned a certain place in their own worlds by doing what they’ve done. They’ve made a lot of mistakes, but they’ve gotten there. In Season 2, the stakes are much higher. It’s the same characters on a continuation of the journey, but now the journey has so much more jeopardy in it.”

The series is inspired by the true stories of people living in the brutal East End of London during the 1880s. It weaves together the world of illegal bare-knuckle boxing with the exploits of the Forty Elephants, a real all-female crime syndicate that specialized in shoplifting from high-end London stores.

How to Watch

A Thousand Blows Season 2 will be available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers on January 9, 2026. The season will consist of six episodes, matching the format of the first season. For those needing to catch up, the complete first season is currently available to stream on Hulu.

The new poster and recent teaser have built significant anticipation for the show’s return, promising more of the gritty storytelling, complex character dynamics, and visceral action that made the first season a success.
