Season 4 of Bridgerton will present a fresh challenge for one of the ton’s most famous new couples. While the season focuses on Benedict Bridgerton’s romance, showrunner Jess Brownell confirms that Penelope Featherington’s life has become more complicated now that her biggest secret is out.
The new season arrives on Netflix in two parts. The first four episodes will be available on January 29, 2026, and the final four episodes follow on February 26, 2026. The story adapts author Julia Quinn’s third novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, bringing Benedict Bridgerton’s long-awaited love story to the screen.
The Central Love Story: Benedict’s Search for Sophie
This season marks artist and second son Benedict Bridgerton’s turn to find love. His story follows a “Cinderella” structure but with a distinct twist. He becomes enchanted by a mysterious “Lady in Silver” at a masquerade ball and spends much of the season trying to find her again.
The object of his search is Sophie Beckett, portrayed by Yerin Ha. Unlike some classic tellings of this story, showrunner Jess Brownell says Sophie is not a damsel in distress.
“We get to watch a very headstrong young woman try to decide her fate for herself and pick up the courage to believe in and dream for a life greater than the one she currently has,” Brownell explained.
The romance explores the divide between their social classes. Benedict enjoys the comforts of a wealthy family, while Sophie works as a maid. Brownell noted that this dynamic brings a “totally new sensibility” to the series by “going downstairs” to show the lives of servants.
“Benedict very much lives in a fantasy world. Sophie very much lives in a harsher reality. The idea is that, for each of them, neither of those stations are where they need to live in order to find true love,” said Brownell.
Brownell has called this novel “the easiest book to adapt” for television so far, citing its clear structure and built-in drama.
“It lent itself really closely to television structure for a love story,” she said. “There are just a lot of rich set pieces that gave us juicy conflict and high stakes”.
Penelope Featherington’s New Public Life
While Benedict’s romance takes center stage, the ongoing story of Penelope and Colin Bridgerton remains a key part of the season. Their storyline faces a major shift following the dramatic finale of Season 3, where Penelope publicly revealed herself as the gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.
Showrunner Jess Brownell says this revelation creates a significant new test for Penelope in her married life.
“It’s a big season for Penelope, actually, because she finally came out as Lady Whistledown, so she’s having to navigate what it’s like being a gossip columnist when the people you’re writing about know you’re the one writing about them,” Brownell told TVLine.
This new reality is expected to put pressure on both Penelope and her husband, Colin, as they navigate the ton’s reaction. Brownell hinted that Colin will be there to support his wife through these challenges.

The Bridgerton Family’s Continued Role
A constant theme in Bridgerton is family, and Season 4 will continue to feature the sprawling Bridgerton clan. Brownell emphasized the effort to include the siblings in the main story.
Eloise Bridgerton, in particular, will have a close role in her brother Benedict’s plot. The showrunner confirmed that Eloise helps Benedict in his search for the masked “Lady in Silver”.
Fans can also expect to check in with other married Bridgerton siblings. This includes Anthony and Kate, who are expecting a child, and the now-married Colin and Penelope, who have a young son named Elliot. The only sibling not confirmed to appear is Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne.
What Comes Next for the Series
With the first part of Season 4 arriving at the end of January, Netflix has already confirmed the show’s future. The streaming service has renewed Bridgerton for both a Season 5 and a Season 6, ensuring more stories from the ton for years to come.
The series continues to draw from Julia Quinn’s book series, though it has rearranged the order of the love stories. With several more Bridgerton siblings awaiting their spotlight, the world of balls, scandal, and romance is far from over.
