BTS member Jungkook impressed Andrew Choi, the singing voice behind Jinu in KPop Demon Hunters, with his flawless cover of Soda Pop and attention to detail.
The animated film KPop Demon Hunters became a global sensation after its release on Netflix, with its soundtrack topping charts worldwide. BTS members, especially Jungkook, have shown their love for the movie by performing covers of its songs. Recently, Andrew Choi, the singer who provided the vocals for the character Jinu, reacted to Jungkook’s rendition of Soda Pop and praised his talent.
“The thing that I love about Jungkook is that he sings with such ease, which is a sign of a true vocalist. Jungkook’s performance is 11 out of 10,” Choi said in an interview with Straits Times Online.
Choi also revealed that Jungkook noticed a small error in the original soundtrack that even the production team missed.
“Jungkook pointed out a mistake in the movie’s OST Soda Pop. I didn’t even notice it. No one seemed to have noticed it until Jungkook took a listen to it. So thank you, Jungkook, for that.”
Jungkook’s Love for KPop Demon Hunters
Jungkook has previously expressed his admiration for KPop Demon Hunters, even performing impromptu covers of its songs during live streams. The movie’s catchy tracks, including Golden and Soda Pop, have been widely covered by fans and artists alike.
The film follows a fictional K-pop girl group, Huntr/x, who secretly battle demons. The antagonist group, Saja Boys, led by Jinu, became fan favorites, with their songs going viral. The voice behind Jinu’s speaking role is Ahn Hyo-seop, while Andrew Choi provided the singing voice.
Andrew Choi’s Dream Saja Boys Lineup
In the same interview, Choi was asked which real-life K-pop idols he would cast as the Saja Boys. His picks included:
- Jungkook (BTS) – For his all-rounder skills and superstar power.
- Mark (NCT) – For his rapping abilities.
- Cha Eun-woo (ASTRO) – For his visuals, often compared to Jinu.
- Baekhyun or D.O. (EXO) – For their strong vocals.
- Young K (DAY6) – For his musical versatility.
Fans have long speculated that Cha Eun-woo was a visual inspiration for Jinu, especially after he covered the movie’s song Free with Arden Cho, the voice of Rumi.
KPop Demon Hunters’ Global Success
Since its release, KPop Demon Hunters has broken records, with its soundtrack becoming the first K-pop animated film music to top Spotify’s US Daily Top Songs. The movie’s success has led to talks of two possible sequels and even a live-action adaptation.
The film features voices from popular K-pop idols, including TWICE’s Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung, who performed the track Takedown. Broadway legend Lea Salonga also lent her voice to the character Celine.
